I ordered 750 rounds of 60 gr Silver Bear to start. From the little bit of searching I've done, seems like military surplus, Silver Bear and the Hornady are just about it as far as available ammo for the 5.45. I've got a buddy who's been looking for Golden Tiger with no luck.

I ordered a VEPR in 5.45 this week. I was torn between an Arsenal Saiga and the VEPR, but the VEPR has this look that appeals to me, and everything I read on them indicates they are rock solid rifles. Unfortunately, looks like I'm buying in as the price of surplus 5.45 is going up.

I've been pondering a 74 for a while now and broke down and ordered a VEPR today. But damn if the usual sources for ammo are all out at the moment.
