Tried a shim on the carrier latch to reduce the travel needed to release the action. Didn't make a difference. I cannot get an understandable answer from my friend that owns the gun. I will go out and shoot it when the weather is better.
I've run into another problem with a friend's shotgun. When pulling the operating handle back to chamber a shell from the mag tube the bolt just locks back. It does not release to chamber the shell.
The shell contacts the carrier latch, but does not push it back to release the bolt.

Looking for a mag tube cap assembly for a Remington 58 12 gauge.
Friend has an heirloom shotgun but the mag cap is missing the dial on the cap that adjusts for
H(igh) power or L(ow) power shells.
Gunparts corp and ebay have some 20 gauge cap assemblys, but no 12 gauge.
Anyone know a source?
Have an AR with an aftermarket hand guard. It doesn't have a place for a front sling swivel.
The PIC rail is only on top, not sides or bottom.
The barrel has a two hole lug on the bottom that may be a candidate for a swivel mount.
The holes are 7/16" center to center.
Anyone know of a...
Used an Auto 5 for years. Always reliable fit well and I could hit with it, but hated changing the ring for high vs. low power shells. I also felt like I got two recoils. One from firing and one from the barrel going back and forth. Eventually, sold it and stayed with pumps.
I have a Mossberg 500 with blond wood. I want to stain it a French walnut color. Haven't done this years. I used to use homer fornby and that worked really well, but that is no more. I am looking for recommendations for stain.
Numrich shows a #4 sear as standard for a 3rd gen S&W.
Midway advertises a #5 and a#6 sear. What is the difference vs. a #4?
If I have a gun with a stiff single action trigger (DA is fine) would a different sear help or should I just work on the existing sear?
I have had experience with...

Take a look at the above link. The chart shows the dovetail size. The sight height is different for 9mm vs. 10mm/45 S&Ws.
I really wish Novak made and adjustable for the 10mm/45. They only make it...
The 40 Hi Power was 3 ounces heavier than the 9mm all in the beefed up slide. That totally changed the balance of the gun. The hammers were very stiff, very difficult to cock one handed. The capacity was ten rounds. The gun was expensive.
There were many other alternatives out there in 40...
The above advice is correct. I have taken BHP from 12 lbs to 5 lbs by doing the following.
The only expense in doing this is a $3 spring from Wolff. Other actions require small files and sand paper.
*Change the main/hammer spring from the current 32 lb to 26 lb or 24 lb
26 lb was the weight...
The S&W 59 was the first of the high capacity double action 9mms. It started the race for high cap 9mms in the 1970s.
The 59 was made in all blue or all nickel finishes. The slide is steel and the frame is aluminum. The blue finish wears easily.
I found the 59 to be very reliable with...
Current production guns are of the highest quality. The BHP is one gun that through the decades have been consistently high quality.
I would stay with a 9mm. No quality issues with the 40SW or 30, just don't feel the same as a 9mm.
I also like to put in a 26 lb hammer spring. That is the...
