Apple a Day - I showed a picture and mentioned those carboard Russian military unmarked boxes in my first post.
The ammo you describe as "Wolf" I am going to guess was the very early Barnaul that I've pictured here. When the Russians started packaging for commercial export they changed the...
Yes, early on there were imports of Chinese, East German, and Russian military 9x18 and each had corrosive primers. Each country packaged the ammo in 16-round cardboard boxes - the Chinese (pictured) and Russian boxes were unmarked:
The East German were marked as pictured here...
chopinbloc you recorded the highest velocities I've ever seen for Hornady XTP. Hornady advertises that the round travels 1,000 fps but it's known that they use a test barrel that is longer than a Makarov PM. I have never heard of the XTP exceeding 1,000 fos. Here are some posted velocities...
Combat Engineer,
I don't know why you're calling Austin excited; he answered in a pretty level headed manner. But based on your reply you know of only one on-line ammo vendor. There are actually more than one.
Killian,
If you had provided some punctuation I may have been able to grasp the meaning of your post. I realize it was a heart felt message - was it about 9x18 or only about 22?
You don't follow 9x18 much do you? Look up what Buffalo Bore has provided. And Underwood. If you don't follow...
It doesn't look like a Khyber from the markings, and the fact that the barrel is chrome lined would strongly indicate it's a real PM. That is one fine looking sample.
Note - a military Chinese Makarov is easily worth 2x what any other variety of Mak will bring. You can get over $2,000 for...
Walt .... just because someone has compared a TT-33 to a Tok ... back to my original question. Why say one pistol is "better" than the other? They are different guns.
For some reason mention of the CZ 82 always seems to bring out this comment, or the vice versa comment that someone likes their Makarov better. The CZ 82 and the Makarov are completely different pistols and only shoot the same caliber. I don't follow 9mm conversations much but does the same...
What mgmorden said. If you couldn't read the model number on the slide to know what you've got I wonder if it's been reblued. Or if it's a CZ 83, commercial variety with the squared trigger guard, it would be blued.
It should go without saying that all the 9x18 military pistols were built to withstand the military ammunition spec of roughly 92 - 93 grains at an approximate velocity of 1050 fps. As after market 9x18 ammo came available that approaches 1200 fps and/or 100 - 120 grains , you need the...
He bought a $450 pistol for $365. I can't understand the firearms collectors here who don't appreciate that. As for comparing the Makarov to a CZ-82 - shy? Why not then compare it to a 1911 or Colt SAA?
