XD .40 S&W subcompact The other selections would work. I haven't been able to find a subcompact as accurate as the XD in the either the 9 mm or .40 S&W up to 50 feet. Recently added a lasermax and night sights. :)

I really like the XD's I have two of them myself. I have the full size .45 acp tactical and the .40 S&W subcompact and I'm very happy with them. Good selection. :uhoh:

My choices in the .45 acp and .40 S&W ammo. I like the Corbon 185 +p rounds for the 45. acp. and for the .40 S&W I like both the federal 155 grain hyda shoks and Corbon 165 grain JHP's for self defense. Both are very effective rounds for there calibers and will work very good in self defense...

All the choices are good overall. All the different handguns mentioned in this tread are good overall. I like the XD's myself because i'm left handed and they work well for me. It's hard to find an easier gun to break down and clean. XD .40 Subcompact, brisk but deadly :)
