    best semi-auto 22?

I would not recommend the Browning .22 auto. Been there, done that. They eject hot empties down your shirt sleeve, the barrel/receiver unit comes loose and is difficult to adjust, scope mounting is precarious (you'll need a cantilever barrel mount, or kiss any accuracy good bye), and the...

    Savage 99F Q's

The 99F is a fine rifle, although my .300 Savage model kicked like a mule! Only a total moron would sell one for $50 in the paper...had to be a catch, or it was a test ad... bluedsteel

    Need help choosing a scope

I have a 700 SPS in .223, and topped it with a Leupold VX-III 6.5-20 with side focus and Varmint reticle...best scope and rifle combination I have ever owned...yes, spend more on the scope than the rifle...with what you saved on the SPS versus a 700P or LTR, you can afford to! bluedsteel

Savage 10FP compared to Remington 700P (cost is NOT an issue)

I would go with the Remington 700...a highly refined rifle you never have to apologize for, and the aftermarket add-on possibilities are nearly endless... bluedsteel

    Thompson or AR?

Whenever I handle the semi-auto Thompsons, I am disappointed in their "feel". To me, they are too long (they were originally designed with a much shorter barrel), and have a blocky, clumsy feel. The Kahrs and A-O's I have handled seem to have sharp edges and loose forends, more often than not...

Which WAS better army rifle of its time?

Every time I take my Garand out for range time, I am amazed we didn't win WWII sooner. It is an awesome, POWERFUL, rifle. I would feel well armed with it if I were to be sent to Iraq...maybe even better armed than with an M4... bluedsteel

Searching for the perfect .223 bolt action rifle

I would go with the Remington 700 of your choosing and replace the factory trigger with a Jewell trigger...you can do this yourself. You will not be disappointed. My .223 bolt gun has taught me more about riflery than all my other rifles combined. bluedsteel

    Jewell trigger HELP! (pictures)

I found this thread after searching for any info on problems with fitting a Jewell trigger to a Remington 700... ...welp...my new Jewell HVR trigger arrived today. Attaching the trigger module to the barrelled action was not difficult. A photo on another web site helped immensely with the...

    sub moa rifles....riiiiight

Ironic that this topic appeared today. My brother and I spent six consecutive hours on the bench at the range this past weekend shooting for group size with our .223's. His rifle is a Weatherby TRR with a Leupold 4.5-14X50 with the varmint hunter reticle. My rifle is a Rem 700 Varmint with a...

Advice appreciated - Correct Leupold Rings for Rem 700

Submoas; Thank you very much. I was hoping the low rings would work, but the mediums should be fine. I will order those. Thanks again. bluedsteel

Advice appreciated - Correct Leupold Rings for Rem 700

I would be ever so grateful if someone could advise as to the proper Leupold ring size for a Remington 700 Varmint (short action - .223) with the varmint/heavy contour 26" barrel. The scope I am planning to use is a Leupold Vari-X III 6.5-20 X 40 with an adjustable objective (1" diameter...

    total noob question re: garands

The Garand is actually a very pleasant rifle to shoot. My 30'06 bolt guns tend to beat me to death, but the Garand is smooth, and a real pleasure to fire. It's also a well balanced rifle, and feels good in the hand. Also, the firepower of eight 30'06 rounds rapidly pounding into...

Need Advice - Rem 700 PSS vs. AR15

Thank you all for the advice and feedback. I remain undecided (typical of me), so I haven't taken any steps to purchase one rifle or the other. I see on the Remington web site that Remington is now installing a new trigger on their 700 series ( X-Mark Pro™ Trigger). Supposedly, this one is...

Need Advice - Rem 700 PSS vs. AR15

I thought I had made up my mind about this, but the more rifles I look at, the more confused I am... I planned on purchasing a Remington 700 PSS today in .223 (gotta be a .223 caliber...long story). I looked at a brand new PSS (26" barrel), and it was quite nice, had good balance and feel...

Stop me before I buy a Taurus... Must resist...

If you buy the Taurus, any Taurus, you will spend the rest of your life apologizing, explaining, and justifying it. When you own a Smith, Colt, SIG, or like weapon, nothing further needs to be said. These guns speak for themselves. bluedsteel
