    Value of FM Browning Clone

I have seen some at gunshows in the Raleigh area, and that was about what they were asking.

If you could only have 1 9mm

No vote from me. How can you leave the Browning Hi Power out of the poll.

    .380 VS 9x18 short (Kurtz)

The 9x18 cz-82s are available in is 9x18 makarov, not 9x18 ultra, the rounds are different. None of them are ammunition compatible with any other, the 9x18 makarov is too fat to chamber in the other, and would result in pressure spikes if you could, the 380 is too small and won't headspace...

Norinco 1911s - is their steel really that good?

well, 5100 alloys are commonly used in knifemaking for applications requiring an especially tough blade. The only use 4100 alloys see in knifemaking is that some hammers are made out of them. so assuming proper heat treat, 5100 alloys are superior in toughness, abrasion resistance, and hardness.

    GP100 10mm Conversions

I think that they are still doing the conversions. A guy named Bullman at 10mmtalk has one.

    Would you take the shot?

Yes, then you could end up crippled for life too! Good plan

    bad guys with body armour

Actually not so much. Fact: Interestingly enough, in FBI Firearms Training Unit tests show that submachinegun and handgun rounds penetrated more on average than .223/5.56mm rounds in typical interior construction and tissue. (http://www.ammo-oracle.com/body.htm) It makes sense, hitting...

    .44 Magnum v .45 Colt

I'm sure John Linebaugh would like to know that the Bisley grip isn't good under recoil. He might stop using it for almost all of his big bore revolvers.

Old-fashioned wood service grips for SP101?

Herrett would do them I think

    Autoloader choices for bear "deterrence"?

If you have to use an auto, the hottest 45 ACP+P, 10mm, 45 super would be a good idea. 5.7 would be a really bad one, if you checked the brassfetcher link, the deepest penetration was still under 12 inches, and bears are a lot tougher than people, so you'd get even less. I think a revolver...

    New one? .450 Short Colt

Actually there was a short colt. The 45 schofield would not operate in some SAAs because the rim is larger than that of the 45 colt. a hybrid cartridge was developed with the length of the schofield but the rim of the colt so that there would be ammuntion that could work in both guns.

Do heavier bullets drop faster than lighter bullets....

True as far as it goes, but the fact is a heavier bullet is probably going to be a different shape than a lighter one. So the calculations you show cannot actually tell us if a heavier bullet will drop faster unless you come up with a satisfactory equation for b.

Heller and M16s/ Heller vs. 922(o) (threads merged)

I believe it was noted earlier that it was probably to swing Kennedy to the pro-civil-rights side that they didn't say machineguns can't be banned. While we don't know for certain, I'll take this intellectually dishonest 5-4 victory over an intellectually honest 5-4 loss any day

What's the oldest gun you own ?

I think I'll resurrect this thread because of my newest acquisition: an 1888 Ithaca Baker model shotgun

    FBI Miami Shootout Riddle.

Easy answer- the 9mm used by the FBI in Miami was the 115 grain silvertip. Both being a winchester silvertip and being a 115 grain 9mm militate towards underpenetration. The 9mm which the .40 S&W overpenetrates less than was the 147 grain loads, which which in the beginning had major issues...

It is delicious, especially the tail. A friend of my uncle's who traps was kind enough to let me try some.

Someone tell me about Federal HST ammo

I wouldn't expect S&W to say that +P+ is good in the M&P because +P+ means it is loaded beyond any saami standard. I would bet that it will work fine with somewhat accelerated wear. It is just like how companies void the warrenty for using handloaded ammunition.

    .45 Weak?

A 45 auto case but about 1.5mm longer, loaded to 35000+ psi is about what the 460 Rowland is. Yes it can be done, but it is impractical as hell for a self defense cartidge. Doubletapping with that kind of power? Only in your pipe dreams. The 45 auto is so anemic because there is no real need...
