Primers at the local Academy sports

I just picked up 1500 small rifle Fiocchi for $109+ at sportsman’s warehouse today and another AR lower for $59.99. They have federal SR $89.99/1000, & Federal SRM $109.99/1000. Academy had Win SR for $89.99/1000.

Keeping reloads in like new condition

I seem to remember someone not that long ago had problems with rounds stored in MTM boxes, but yours should be fine for a year or less I’d expect. I have some 30-30 I loaded in 90 that has lost its shine and is slightly tarnished, and I’m sure I wiped it off with a rag with kerosene on it then a...

Trying to decide on only one bullet for 357

My preference is the Lee 158 lead semi wadcutter that I tumble lube. Over 5.0 grains of bullseye it shoots great in a 6” GP-100 and i only target shoot with it, no hunting. It is self cleaning and I’m almost to 9k down the barrel with not cleaning the barrel and it still just has a grey wash.

"Precision Shooting Reloading Guide," Brennan (1998)

One on evilbay right now for $40 and $5 shipping. Also Ryan Cleckner has a good one also on there for $15.95 long range shooting guide i think it is. Orange cover and a real good book.

    223 headstamp

I keep it all. My bolt gets LC 20, my “precision“ AR gets LC21, and my other AR gets what’s left over and shoots it all the same. I haven’t encountered any brass I’d cull just because of who made it in 223/556. Not like amerc in 9mm, that gets crushed on sight. For just casual shooting or...

    Rmr 75gr bthp over rl15

Your magazine will limit your OAL unless you single load them. I’d expect 2650 to be sufficient with a 77 bthp to drop a yote, bullet placement obviously is key, but it should, I’d expect, do the job nicely.

    Rmr 75gr bthp over rl15

RL15 is a top mentioned powder for heavy 223/556 loads on a few boards and lots have had great success with that combo. The determining factor will be if your rifle likes it. A Wylde chamber is the best option in my mind, allowing you to shoot 223 or 556 pressured rounds in it, and your twist...

Phony baloney, or the real McCoy?

I’m interested in how this pans out as well. To my mind, the bullet being a couple thou off the center axis would be straightened out and stabilized by the barrel, so no need for this tool. But there is still much I just don’t know and am willing to learn. geodude, I’ll get the bucket and salt.

    Lubricant for carbide dies?

Liquid lanolin and a bottle of red ISO Heet from the automotive departmeant is about the best, cheapest, and easiest way to go. Get an empty spray bottle, pour in one ounce of lanolin, then the 12 ounce bottle of iso heet and mix well. In a ziplock, bowl, box, or whatever container you want put...

    LUBE QUESTION???

I too use the red iso heet and liquid lanolin sparingly and it’s just enough to make sizing easier and not leave the cases sticky, so I don’t clean them after. If you put enough on there where you can feel the lube, you should probably clean it off. I did till I got the amount figured out and...

    Hornady Unique case lube

Years ago I’d lube about every 4th or 5th case resizing 38/357, and even 9mm, but now I just use the lanolin spray lube and do them all. Having carpal tunnel, tennis elbow, and shoulder pain on and off for decades the lube has made a world of difference for me. You don’t “need” to, but it...

    Weird range pick up brass.

I had an Astra A-100 9mm that I loved and extra mags were expensive. At a gun show I found one but it was a 40 and the dealer said it worked perfectly in a 9mm so I got it and he was right. Fed 9mm with no malfunction for years and the only difference I could see was it was marked 40. I had no...

    What am I doing wrong?

This looks like a job for the Lee Factory Crimp Die… seriously, I’d bet seating them a little deeper and removing any flare may just fix your problem. Seat a couple thou deeper then try the plunk test and see if your good.

    Weird range pick up brass.

Both of these I found last summer at the outdoor range I go to. The 223 caught my eye while picking up a the end of the visit. The 9mm I think one of the kids stepped on, or at least someone did.

    Let’s talk die maintenance

Last new die set I bought was ~20 years ago and it was a 233 Lee 4 die set. I wiped them clean to get any manufacturer oil off of them and put them to work, same as every other set I bought. The only time I have cleaned a die has been the seater die when loading cast and tumble lubed 9, 38, or...

    Burn Rate Chart Inconsistencies

The only thing I have ever used one of those charts for is when shopping for powder and looking for possible alternatives if what I’m looking for is out.

    TRIMMING 9MM BRASS???

I normally shoot 16k of 9mm a year and I did buy a trimmer 30+ years ago but quickly found it wasn’t necessary and haven’t measured another case length since. I also don’t measure my 357 or 38 cases but I definitely do for rifle.

    Unusual concept

I have a dozen 38 cases that I drilled out and enlarged the flash holes for shooting hot glue bullets with primers only, I’ll probably go back to doing that in the back yard. In a friend’s basement there are fans to blow the fumes out of a window and half the basement is empty and nothing but...

    Light 9mm REVOLVER ONLY reloads?

First off. What barrel length are we talking about? That could make a bit of difference here.
