    Term for 'flake' of powder?

Kernals here for all but Trailboss and I call them Cheerios ... and when I am loading stick powders ( extruded ) at times I will split hairs when weighing as most of these only take 3 or 4 sticks to make 1/10th of a grain in weight .

which of 3 powders for 38 spec

One more vote for Bullseye on the 148 gr. wadcutters and Unique on the 158 gr. semi wadcutters . As you only have a pound of each and the wadcutters I assume will be your plinkers , Bullseye is very stingy and will load alot of soft shooting wadcutters per pound . Save the Unique for the more...

Do you reload 1 or all of your cartridges?

Yessir ! Reload everything but rimfire and even those I hand lube the bullets for more consistant groups . I own no high dollar firearms but they all shoot like the high priced ones . Reloading and OCD were ment to be together .:D

To Gas Check or Not Gas Check

Where the gas check really comes into play is that it allows you to use in many cases a softer alloy that can help in hunting bullet or hollowpoint bullet performance . Not sure how powder coating comes into play in this regard as havent tried it ( yet ) ...

    concentricity

Murf , You were quite right about the seating stem and is why I use RCBS dies as some others only come with a universal seating stem . As for the runout in how it relates between handgun and rifle round performance I should have stated " As with all things there can be excess". As you were...

    concentricity

Are you using a progressive press or a single stage ? If using a progressive this can be expected and .003 isnt all that bad unless you are a benchrest competition shooter or something . Most of the runout comes from how squarely the bullet is in conjunction with the brass when the bullet is...

    Heated Lubrisizer for hard Lubes?

I went really low rent and bought a piece of 1/4 inch thick aluminum strap at a metal recyclers for $2.00 and then a small travel clothes iron at a thrift store for $5.00 to make my temp controlled heater . I ran the aluminum plate under the 450 lubesizer leaving a section about 6 inches long...

How many of you carry reloads in your SD guns?

I use handloads in my .38 special revolver but they are cast not FMJ . I was able to obtain higher ( +P ) velocities of 962 fps behind a hollowpointed version of the Lyman 358429 bullet weighing in at 164 grs . They are cast at 10 BHN and open up very reliably up to 50 yds. and are very accurate...

    Polish a 20MM Shell?

I have done a few artillery shells over the years and find pretty much any of the metal , paint , or polishes made to strip hard water spots etc. to work very well on large tarnished brass . Metal polishes such as those by Mothers or Maguires found in auto parts stores work fastest . Nu Finish...

    Trimming cases

A good set of drill bits and a piece of wood appx. 2 in. thick does the trick . You just drill each hole barely oversize 1 1/2 inches deep and space them about 1 inch apart . A fine point sharpie marker will lable each pin on the edge of the wood block for fast refference . Hope this helps ...

Question for lube/sizing in cold garage.

+1 on rooster59 post I too use the same setup . Midway used to offer a special heater for the 450 with a thermostat control but was problematic and they discontinued it . If you opt to try this get a travel iron with a multi position rheostat ( temp control ) dial and you will find the...

Powder choice--and loads for .270 WSM

+1 on Retumbo and the 140 Accubonds . 71.5 grs is stellar in my partners model 70 Winchester shooting under 1 inch at 200 yds at around 3,175 fps as I recall . What more can a man ask for ? 10 Spot

Proper size buckshot for .177 airguns?

I dont see this as being a very successful venture for a couple of reasons. If you use lead shot in size BB it is not as a rule perfectly round and could cause feeding and firing as well as accuracy issues . Second the added weight of the lead will add to a poorer down range trajectory . It will...

Powder choice for 357 Mag and 125 gr JHP

My vote goes to Unique as like you I was looking for a medium heavy load rather than a full house load . My personal load using a 125 gr. Speer JHP is 7.8 grs of Unique fired from my 4 inch Model 66 Smith & Wesson. Recoil is very manageble making it easy to shoot double action. It runs over 1150...

    Think I found my load!

That same bullet and powder with a charge of 24.8 grs. is my accuracy round out to 200 yds. in my Tikka T3 Lite with a 1 in 8 twist . On a windless day which rarely ever occurs in central Oregon it will chew a ragged hole at 100 yds. and stay within 1/2 inch at 200 . 10 Spot

Lee neck size dies crushing 223 Rem??

looking at the photos shows not only the shoulders severely crushed but if my eyes arent deceiving me those necks look to be expanded well over .22 calibre which isn't possible to do with a Lee neck sizing die . The sizing mandrel in the die is nothing more than a straight rod with a tapered tip...

WCC99 brass - anybody use it

Just to be sure take a few of each trimmed to the same length and do the water volume check of the internal case capacity. Fill the commercial cases with water and pour them into the military cases and see if they hold the same. 10 Spot

    Powder Measure Vibrator

To avoid the risk of your reloading buddies wondering what you might be up to behind closed doors try attaching an engraving tool to the powder dispensers hopper with heavy rubber bands. These shake pretty good and leaves your reputation intact. Highly recommend a powder baffle when doing this...

    Reloading Data using Lead "Boolits"

Lymans cast bullet reloading manual for the book. Another vote for both the Cast Pic and the Cast Bullet Association website but I would add one more site for great info on lead casting but no reload data and that is the Los Angeles Silohuette Club . Many fine articles there as well as...

    Can't find load data for a .223

The 3 reference manuals I just checked all have listing for the v-max and I believe it is due to the boat tail design as well as the ballistic tip in combo on the Nosler not being a first choice in semi-auto rifles. 3 all show IMR4895 and 1 lists the H4895 as well. All 3 have the start load...
