Active military, time to go to Europe. Which is more gun friendly?

+1 on what Rocketmedic said. Contact your gaining unit. Host nation laws are only part of the equation; the SOFA (Status of Forces Agreement) is the other. There are some foreign duty assignments where US servicemembers aren't alloowe to toake POWs at all. I haven't been stationed overseas...

What is the last gun that you bought?

Used Marlin Model 70 Papoose .22LR. The next two will be tires for my truck and the Mrs' SUV.

Maybe I got too much safe? Is there such a thing?

It may well have been more. It was 5 years ago. EDIT: I actually found the PMs. $4200 delivered, from user CB900F. Two things that helped with the price - WA state exempts gun safes from sales tax; and Graffunder is located in Yakima, WA (I actually visited their plant, even though I bought...

Maybe I got too much safe? Is there such a thing?

I bought a smaller Graffunder (clocks in at around 3600 lbs) about 5 years ago. I think the price was about a dollar a pound...about $3700, delivered. The really fun part? I'm in the Army. It's already been moved twice, and will be again this summer. Maybe this time they'll believe me when...

    Some small arms engineering questions

You're referring to the AR-Restor. I believe it supplements, rather than replaces, the existing buffer and spring system, to soften the recoil. I've never used one, but from what I've heard they're not the most reliable things. Regarding hyrdaulics: one thing I remember from watching...

How good are you telling if someone's carrying, or do others notice you're carrying?

To the best of my knowledge, the only person who ever made me was a 6 year old on a playground. He asked if I was a policeman (I'm in the Army, with requisite high-and-tight haircut).

    spousal safety... on post?

I wish I knew the origins of the .mil's seemingly odd attitudes toward weapons. I have heard stories from some of the civilians I work with, some of whom were LTs back in the 70s, of the days when things were so bad they carried sidearms as the duty officer, because the barracks weren't safe...

    GG&G Bipod Opinions

A guy on Craigslist has a GG&G bipod, of the swivel variety, listed for $50. New, they go for around $175. Is the GG&G bipod any good? I haven't found any bad reviews, but then again, I haven't found many reviews. The thing looks like it could hold a SAW, if not something heavier.

    Waterproof targets?

Would the red/blue throw-away plastic plates be allowed? You can buy those in packages of 100 at most supermarkets, and just staple them to the target backing.

How loud is the supersonic crack?

When I've worked the pits, I was never sure if the cracks I heard were from the passage of the bullets through the air, or the sound of them striking the targets. The one time I could distinctly ID the sound of bullets passing was on a Bradley platoon live fire gunnery range, where the 25mm...

    AR-15 Thread

Time to show off a bit... J&T 20" A2 upper, Stag lower, no name stock, surplus bayonet RRA 9mm upper, Mega Machine lower, stock from Oly I've just gotten all the parts to put another one together. Well, except the Leupold CQ/T. I'll see if I can talk my wife into modeling it when it's...

    Your Views On Weapon-Mounted Lights

Ninjas don't prowl in gangs. And you'd never hear them breaking in even if they did. Unless they're Mall Ninjas.

What accuracy do you expect at 100-yards from a 20" AR with A2 sights?

Any stock service rifle (M16A2 or A4) is required to shoot 3 MOA at 100m using M855 ball ammo. With better ammo (like, say, Black Hills Match) they will do better. Green tip ball is good, but not great, ammo Seems like you're doing slightly better, and you're not a mechanical rest. Good...

    Dpms Sdm-r

So, what I'm looking at so far is this: DPMS SDM-R upper from local gun shop: $825 w/tax. This includes free float rails, plus a bipod and rail covers. I'd want to add a Smith Vortex, which would bring it closer to $900 CMMG 20" medium contour upper w/Daniel Defense free float rails &...

The White Oak is definitely worth looking at. A good bit more $$, but much better quality. My only concern is the Wylde chamber. I need 5.56

    Dpms Sdm-r

I'm looking to build/buy as close to a close on the Army's SDM-R as I can get. The only manufacturer I've found that makes something like that (without buying the upper assembly in separate pieces, which is more work that I'm equipped to do) is DPMS. Anyone know anything about their SDM-R...

Any good gun spots in WA?

It's little known, but the Fort Lewis POW (privately owned weapon, in Army-speak) range is open to the public, but it's only open on weekends an possibly Fridays. You can get there by taking East Gate Rd from SR 507. It handles rifle and pistol, and you can shoot out to 300 yards. Oh...
