Red VS. Blue. I keep changine my mind so help me out!

I have 3 LNL AP presses, a Hornady single stage, and a Lee classic cast single stage. My first LNL AP is 14 yrs old and is set up just for 223, the other two are set up as one for small primers and one for large primers. The cost for the last two was about $80 each when factoring in the value of...

    Trail Boss metering issues

Hello all, tonite i used some Trail Boss for the first time to make some target rounds for a S&W 38 spec revolver. I use a L-N-L AP press with the Hornady micrometer pistol meter in the powder measure. The measure has a baffle. Everything was cleaned and checked before starting. My load is a...

Advice on a Personal Shooting Range

Built a range on my farm with dirt from building home and barns. I moved a three-sided shed to shoot out of with a floor of recycled patio blocks. I put 10' high berms at 25, 50, 100, 250, and 400 yds. It was fast work with a huge rented payloader. The 25 yd and 100 yd berms are 40' wide, others...

    South Dakota

South Dakota is one of my favorite states, (Minnesota is my home for now), the variety of land and recreation is amazing. Most are good Americans. As for Hunting on Indian reservations, my experience has only been positive and I've hunted prairie dogs dozens of times on the Standing Rock and...

    CFE-223 Disappointing velocity?.?.?.?

My results were similar when using CFE223 in my RRA AR15 and 60 grain Nosler BT, my velocity was much less than other powders by 300-400 fps. I use CFE223 now for blasting loads only.

    .308 147gr FMJ accuracy?

I have been using the .308 147gr pulldown bullets with 44.5gr of 4895 in my MP10 with good effect for plinking. I bought 2k from Top Brass, and there are few marks on them, if at all. The load shoots a consistent 2" group from a rest at 100 yds if I do my part. Max load of 4895 produced less...

    Ahh...I love doing this!!!

Case prep is made much less of a chore ever since my daughter, age 25, really got into target shooting with her AR. Now we spend a lot of time together when she is home, working at the bench. We talk about life and I have had the joy of teaching her. Downside is she is now a better marksman...

Do you shoot in the snow?

Of course. Like another poster said, otherwise one would get rusty not practicing for such a long time. Here in Minnesota it is snow and cold 5 months a year. Just dress for it and load your mags inside. It is important to know how my rifles and loads perform in the cold.. I routinely hunt...

Loading .44 Mag for a rifle

Hornady has different charge maximums for rifle and revolver. I always look at what firearm is used in developing the load. For example they list 18.4 gr of H110 with my favorite deer pill, the 300gr XTP, for a Ruger Deerfield. The max charge for revolver for that bullet and powder is listed at...

    AR-10 Loads?

Guns and Ammo magazine published a very informative article this year on loading for a 308 AR. Check out their website.

    I confess = I did "it".

Brain farts happen. I remember being shot at, 41 years ago, by my uncle, an orthopedic surgeon. I was right where he told me to be on the other side of small ravine. He was looking right at me but only saw the covey of quail. I hit the ground as his gun swung my direction and the shot went right...

    IMR4895 for .308

I have used 4895 for years in 308 for hunting and target in moderate temps. Switched to XBR 8208 for winter coyote hunting in Minnesota. For me,at least, some of the new powders tested better in really cold conditions.

Handling anti's after this past Friday...

I hear you Powdermonkey.. With the pain we all feel for CT comes anger. For some, that anger leads to quickly finding something/someone to blame. The vitriolic attacks we see on the NRA gives some relief for those who won't admit the core problems of mental illness, extremely realistic first...

    Gun Smithing....The lost profession

Kynoch said it. Gunsmithing is a trade. It is not a profession. When you do one thing for a living it has become confused with a profession. You aren't a professional when you learned the skill in your spare time, picked it up on the job from your boss or Dad, simply started doing it, or took...

What was the best GUN present/surprise you ever got?

My grandfather gave me a English Tower musket he said was from American Revolution times. I have not confirmed that. He also gave me a Mississippi rifle that says Eli Whitney 1852 on it.

    Should i get a 10mm?

Love my Kimber target 10mm. Can load it up or down. Need to have a selection of springs though, the really heavy loads will otherwise lock the slide back on my gun. It is the most fun gun for handload experimentation I've ever had.

    Hornady LNL AP broke...

I've got 3 LnL presses. One is 11 years old. No real problems when tuned up properly and lubed. Well over 100K total now that my son and sons in law use them. S'pose one could get a defective casting. Stick with it and don't force anything. Hornady will make it right.
