    Someone breaks into your house

Why shoot? The sound of a hammer cocking or a round being chambered is potent indeed - no hearing protection necessary. If the fool doesn't then cry uncle... well, that's Darwin's theory in real-time. :D Forget the protection. Protect the family.

Help me understand: What's a good trigger like?

I've been into firearms for decades, and I ALWAYS hear one of two things about a 'gun': how *good* or *bad* a trigger is. I must be dense or something, but so long as pulling that little lever results in a bang, life is good. I've pulled triggers that don't travel one millimeter before the...

What's the time after the ban ends called?

Haven't heard much about this "time," but seems to me that there is some grey area here... Any consensus on the following ideas:

Recommendations for my first and last wheel gun?

Looks like S&W is leading the pack for recommendations... After looking up the suggestions, I do like the looks of the Colt line with their "Ultimate" Stainless finish. Looks like Ruger has something similar, too. I'm finding myself drawn to a few models that don't have flutes on the...

Recommendations for my first and last wheel gun?

I've been an auto fan my whole life... No reason really, but as a youngster, I found myself more interested in the 'automatic' function of basically everything. Now that I've added some grey hairs, I'm finding myself enjoying the stuff is made 'like they used to.' My history with auto...

    Kahr MK9 Elite: 98 or 2003?

I've a MK40/98 that I bought used. Since I've had it, I've had no problems with whatever I've done with it, fed it, lubed it with. Far as I can tell, the extra "5" only gets you a modified mag well, and a different number engraved on the side.

    Building a better [spud]gun...

The abbreviation SCH = 'schedule' Beyond that, the basics are, the higher the number, the thicker the wall. For the most part, more thickness = more strength, and cost.

    Building a better [spud]gun...

From what I've seen on THIS SITE my stuff is pretty tame. Since pic's aren't an option for me, I'll describe the design that I've had success with. NOTE: The requisite disclaimer is appropriate here: I MAKE NO GUARANTEES WHATSOEVER. USING THESE CONCEPTS IN WHOLE OR PART IS TO BE DONE AT YOUR...

    Building a better [spud]gun...

esheato: nice links - just what I was looking for. THANK YOU! Appreciate the thoughts and comments - I don't feel so alone now... Most everyone that I meet thinks Spud Guns are some kind of folk lore. Until I get one out and plant some potato's a few blocks away ;) . Here's some...

    Building a better [spud]gun...

Yes, only one or two blocks in range... In terms of feet, that's equal to about 1500 in my neighborhood. I'm using pretty tame propellant - the propane in Aquanet Hair Spray - and the 'long' part of the spud. I've tried more exotic juice, but had a few unfavorable experiences that have...

    Building a better [spud]gun...

I'm on my 5th generation of spud gun design, and have hit a technological dead-end. With this latest generation, I'm getting about as much as I can out of a smooth bore system, and am looking for suggestions on how to rifle the bore of the launch tube. Basically, just lobbing a spud out there...

    CLEARly superior holsters for Kahr

I found this HOLSTER and need help from fellow Kahr owners to help get these folks into production. I've inquired about their making holsters for Kahrs, and rec'd a response from 'Frank' that they have plans to tool up for Kahr's at some point, but if there's a demand, I'm hoping that he'll do...

When openly carrying isn't considered to be open?

Is there a consensus on when a holster, by its very use, constitues concealed carry? I mean, if you're packing your piece in a fanny pack, it's obviously concealed... But if your holster has a flap, is it no longer considered concealed? Is there some magic formula that X% of the pistol needs...

    HK p7m8: pros and cons?

Probably in the minority here, but I've found that the 9mm versions of the P7 don't hold a candle to their boat-anchor-kin, the P7M10 in 40S&W. Liked it so much, I bought more than I'll ever confess. Guess that this isn't really a Pro / Con for the M8's but as a whole, the P7 series is all PRO...

    Carrying open?

I'm disappointed that the legal carrying of a concealed weapon hasn't caught on in the land of the Cheese Heads. We've tried, but alas, it appears that our leaders don't have the stones. :banghead: It has been explained to me that while it isn't legal to carry under cover, it is legal to...

Yikes! What? You're a Police Officer? But how? Really? Oh, man...

I posted earlier in this thread... Here's an article from my local paper about a related topic [CLICK FOR STORY] and how a certain PO's almost lost everything.

Yikes! What? You're a Police Officer? But how? Really? Oh, man...

Hmm, I would think that someone who may stake their life on a "tool" - in this case, a firearm - would *WANT* to be damn good at using it, even if their employer doesn't provide the means with which to gain those skills. Maybe it's the crowd that I hang out with, but every PO that I know is...
