    .22 short for armadillos?

we used to shoot them with what ever was available, and watch them "break dance" i.e. jump and flip for awhile. also, do not make the mistake of playing kick the armadillo! It will break your toe!

    Needing a better bullet

I noticed one other fact: shot gun primers. It is my experience in my 1:28 twist muzzle loader that the shotgun primer tends to give me very inaccurate loading while the 209 muzzloader primers give me very consistant ignition and group. If you hit that deer in the 10" kill area he is dead, and...

    New model Blackhawk .357 problem

Ruger service got to the point of trying to pull the cylinder pin out and it wouldn't budge. I got a call back from Ruger early this morning. Ms. Sandy gave me specific instructions. I followed them while trying to hold the phone, use a screwdriver and pliers. I needed three hands. I asked...

    New model Blackhawk .357 problem

My revolver spent awhile in my hunting pak. I put it there loaded. I was cleaning out my pak, and tried to unload the revolver. The loading gate is open, but the cylinder will not turn. The hammer can come back about half way. I left the loading gate open, pushed the cylinder lock pin from the...

Killing Carpenter Bees with Salt Shot

nobody mentioned my favorite: slingshot with wet sand or rice or birdseed on borer bees. They are great fun sitting on the deck in the afternoon as summer comes on. I have used a red rider and can hit a small percentage with it. Pretty dramatic when you do!

    Do I need a 20MOA scope base for 22-250?

500 yards for my .220 Swift/Leupold 4.5 x 14 x50 is about as far as is possible in the field. I have fooled around with .308 for longer shots. Prairrie Dogs are pretty big until they get past 500 yards. I load 42 grain bullets.

    Scope Question

I have a question that bears on this discussion: I have been shooting a .300 Win Mag with 180 Gr. factory and reloads. I have zero at 200 yards using a bottom of the bull hold. It is very accurate. We have a pipeline running thru our deer lease and food plots about 300 yards apart. With my...

    338 Win Mag

IMR 4350 is a very common powder for .300 Win Mag with 180 gr. bullets and 215 primers. it's about 2950 FPM 24" barrell. This is NOT a max load. 300each .338 loaded rounds is 450-500 dollars worth of hunting rounds. I would weigh each one and discard any one that is different and inspect each...

    Ending the animal's life...

I am surprised that no one puts their foot on the shoulder, grasps the horn or muzzle and slits the jugular veins high on the neck. The danger of close range rifle or pistol is ricochet or splatter. I take a high shoulder shot whenever possible, and the animal goes down immediately. They often...

    Why so many DRT online?

high shoulder shot I have hunted deer for more than 50 years. Yes, some have not dropped right there, but most have. I have hunted with .308 150 Grain Corlok or WW Silver tip. In the last 15 years or so, I have taken the high shoulder shot for all but one (in the white patch under the chin with...

Any advice on how aging has impacted what you can and can't do for shooting?

age affect your shoot? Heck yea! I am 66 and I can afford to shoot all I want! That is the good part. I went dove hunting twice last weekend and had 10-12 pass shooting opportunities each morning or afternoon. I killed one dove, and knocked feathers off of several others. It was with my trusted...

Shot shell primers in break action muzzleloader?

2x on the shotgun primers are hotter than the muzzle loader. I couldn't figure why I couldn't get a group with my first muzzloader break action. Changed to muzzleloader primers and got immediatlely better.

    Remington 700 S/A .308

I have a Remington that was a sniper rifle early in it's life. It has a 1.1" dia. barrel with muzzle break. the stock is HEAVY. I found a Remington VTR stock for a reasonable price that measures .951 ID in the barrel channel. The channel fits a round to triangular barrel. My question is: Has...

    #7 1/2, #8 and #9 shot

pattern before penetration I have hunted for more than 60 years, and I can say that the pattern fails before the penetration is insufficient. Choose your gun and choke first. Then put whatever comes to hand in the gun. I remember a pheasant guide once telling me that my Browning O/U IC/Mod...

    Springfield 1903 Rock Island Arsenal

I have a serial number 268591. I have believed that it is a no shooter based on the accepted miminum serial number of 285507. I was recently discussing a possible trade for a 8MM mauser even trade. the collector seemed too eager. Is my gun really a no shooter or is it just don't take a chance...

    Choosing a Dove Gun

"lugging around all day" I have enjoyed southern dove hunting for most of my 65 years. Before I could shoot, children were the dogs that retreived your Dads and Uncles doves. It was too hot for the hunting dogs in September! First of all, there is no lugging around. You pick a spot that is in...
