If you have Evaporust I'd go with that. If not then vinegar rather than rushing out to buy anything. Switch out the Evaporust a few times to "stir" it up. Then drain, flush with water and dry. And right away oil.
If using Balistol and water " Moose Milk" the just flush the water with that...
Techniques change with time and development.
At one time pistols were drawn and shot one handed.
Then at some point we were treated to the Weaver stance and hold.
Then we got the two hands high on the gun and the current IPSC and "body armor" square on stance.
Pick the one that works for...
This is a pretty long thread so I have not read all of the replies.
Since it is nickel plated an option would be to overplate the nickel on the grip frame area until it is thick enough to be able to abrade( fine) away the engraving and repolish the area to match the rest of the finish. It...
Round ball is no slouch for accuracy.
I had my cap & ball Uberti 1860 replica and one of my S&W's at the range at the same time. They shot very close to the same size groups at 15 to 17 yards. I'm by no means a masterful bullseye shooter but I manage to keep tidy 2 to 2.5 inch groups at that...
My blued Model 17 and two of the other folks' 617's at my clubs all have pretty tight chambers that get tight from fouling quite easily. So I'd suggest adding a .22 size wire cleaning brush on a short extension rod and some manner of ball or "T" handle to go with that slick looking loading...
A heavier bullet tends to shoot higher for sure. I've proved that with my .38Spl loads in my S&W's revolvers over the years. Also shooting faster tends to hit lower. That I proved with my own "revolver roulette" where I'd load my S&W .357's with 5 Specials and one Magnum. The Magnum...
Gator, I'm not sure what you're trying to "fix" here. Obviously using a smaller size and paper or cloth patching is possible. But did you find that the paper patched smaller round ball shot MORE accurately than the "proper" size soft lead balls that were swaged into the cylinder in the classic...
There certainly is more than one way to skin a cat!
The previous one used a similar stud and wing nut and I like it because with the two pieces I can be a touch more flexible in how the stand is stored in a shooting bag or other situation. But to be fair I mostly just never thought about...
I made do with a stand for years which was done up literally in 40 minutes from some construction lumber. So a few days back I decided to make a new one. This is the result.
It's made from wenge. And as you can see it includes holes for five empty .308Win casings to use as powder transfer...
Apply with the cotton ball as mentioned. Then rinse and dry and card each coat with 0000 super fine steel wool. Wipe with degreaser (the steel wool is slightly oily) and apply the next coat of cold blue. Repeat up to 3 or 4 times. If it's still blotchy after that then it's an issue with the...
Perhaps CYounger's new toy was made using an overly long "out of spec" arbor and by some odd chance it just fit?
I do agree that this would be a stretch. But it's possible.
When I added bottoming pucks to the nose of my Colt clone arbors they all needed to be a good .05 to .06 long (thick)...
Gauge pins or slugging and then measuring the grooves in the slugs that gives the bore. Both will provide the results needed. But one costs more than the other. I fail to see where one method is better than the other.
The REAL slug would also work provided it's a size that gives a clear and...
Hillbilly, a lot of great advice so far. Hopefully you find these below similarly useful.
If you shoot your C&B revolver a fair amount you might find it useful to make up a reloading stand. It is handy for freeing up that other hand for more useful jobs than just holding the gun so the powder...
The tensioning screw setup is the TK Custom one. Or someone copied it. Either way that is what is on this particular gun. Long adjustment screw with no head on it and the locking set screw up from below.
My own thoughts where that the extended pin should not make any difference in terms of...
A buddy and I have been working on tuning his JM 625. We've got it firing rounds consistently but only with a higher trigger pull than we think it should have. We're currently using the stock mainspring ground SLIGHTLY narrower (not thinner) and this is working with the 14lb rebound spring...
Thanks, I had totally forgotten about that style. Or or two of the project rifles will get that style. I like the fact that even with click notches that the steps will be very fine.
Beag_nut, that's truly resourceful ! I've done a couple of oddball adaptions like that too. But this time around I'm looking for something more traditional since I'm limited by the SASS rules. But I LIKE it ! ! !
SC45-70, that's really nice work you did on that one. And good use of stock shape and carving away the rest. I'll keep that in mind for other applications and might just "borrow" your shaping and styling cues.... :)
But it's not the style I'm looking to make at the moment. What I'm after is...
For a few oddball reasons I'm looking to make up a few rear sights for some rifles I have on hand. I'm wondering if any of you have done something like this and might have a few hints on best methods. Fancy joints within reason are not out of the question since I've made my own cutters and I'm...
