A side question about the sound.

The noise of the supersonic bullet is louder than the muzzle blast when heard from down range. Here is a brief clip from a video I made years ago when I was trying to convince a MN state Senator to push a silencer bill. Two rounds of 22lr (CCI Blazer) followed by two rounds of 17hmr then 2...

Let's see the .22 rifles that make you smile

When I first started helping out with the Junior Rifle Team I decided to make my own cheap rifle for competition as the club rilfes/ammo were for the kids only. I bought a Savage MKI single shot with Williams peep sights for about $350. The plastic stock was crap so I bought a Boyd's Tacticool...

    Newbies at the range

Most of my shooting in the last 20 years has taken place at RSO controlled ranges or with a few people in the woods in western WA. I realized I was spoiled when I took a trip to Texas and went to a few ranges that were not RSO controlled. People handled guns during cease fires and some would...

avoiding ear damage with powerful rifles

I suspect that people who do not think there power rifles are loud may actually have enough hearing loss to make them appear so. I'm in my 50's, but I can still hear as low as 0-15 decibels. I think rifles in 22lr with supersonic ammo are not comfortable to shoot.

1/2-28 muzzle threads? Tried it with a muffler yet?

Let's see the .22 rifles that make you smile

I have a standing offer with my wife. When we're at a gun store, she can buy any gun she wants, price is no object. She took me up on it once and got the 2nd cheapest gun at Sportco in Fife WA. I added a large scope (she can't bother with a spotting scope), bipod, and silencer (she hates...

    Your Favorite Shooting Accessory?

Spotting scope. If I'm at a range where people are shooting without silencers, then it is hearing protection.

    Disliked gun related terms, expressions.

Back when I was setting up a silencer shoot complete with signs advertising the event, I was told there was no such thing as a silencer and I should stop using that word. Explaining the the word "silencer" is a noun and legal term used along side "muffler" in the US Code did not work on this...

    Opinions on shooting gloves

I bought a pair of fingerless shooting gloves a while back. The seams cut into my skin while shooting my 44 mag revolver. I replaced them a cheap pair of seamless cloth work gloves with rubber impregnated palms. I cut the fingers off at the joint down from the knuckles and they worked well.

A side question about the sound.

When I was lobbying for passage of the WA silencer use bill, I shot video of various rifles using supersonic ammo to demonstrate how "not quiet" they were. I had the camera set up down range and shot past it. 22lr, 17hmr and 308win all created loud whip cracking sounds as they past the...

Recommend a solution for crimped primers?

I've used the RCBS reamer tool and the swager. Now I don't bother using either and just throw the 1% of the brass that I can't properly re-prime into my recycle bin.

    Recommend a firearm

I think the best all around gun is going to be a 12 gauge like a Mossberg 500 or Remington 870. Can be configured with or without a stock, long or short barrels, smooth or rifled bores and shot or slugs. Best small rifle will be any 22lr bolt gun. Best mid power semi would be an AR-15, the...

    Browning Buckmark

I use CCI Blazer in all of my 22lr pistols. It is cheap and accurate enough. I can't shoot any better with match grade 22lr unless the pistol (a Buckmark Varmit with 10" bull barrel and scope) is especially accurate. The Blazer is rather consistent also. I use CCI Std Vel in my rifles except...

Doctors asking if there are guns in your home?

Never had a problem with the doctors at all. Discussed my blood lead level, hearing protection and shooting glasses. One big fat non-issue so far with me. I was able to get a meeting with Representative Jinkins in Tacoma several years ago to pitch the SBR bill to her. She is rather anti-gun...

You think this will get us our bump stocks back, silencer de-regulation or CCW resiprocity?

Anyone ever shot an M1 carbine (30carbine) suppressed?

I put my 300 whisper silencer on my Universal M1carbine. It sucked. The gas blowback was enough to move my hair and require double eye protection. Along with my WASR, it was the only gun I have that is less enjoyable to shoot suppressed than unsuppressed.

    Rapid fire test

Picked up a FWB 600 made in the early 80's. It needed a new seal kit but shoots well. Ranb

    Do you have NFA friends?

I know a few people at the local range who shoot suppressed. Have allowed a few people to make silencers on my lathe also. Ranb

    55 gallon silencer?

I built a box out of foam filled steel doors and another muffler out of a 55 gallon drum for use with a 50 BMG rifle. Both did nothing for noise at the shooter's ear but did completely eliminate the side blast and also reduced noise for those nearby. I have a letter from the BAFE what says it...

Home built SBR registration in WA State

I "acquired" two SBR's on ATF form 1's three weeks after the law went into effect. They are still configured as rifles at this time. I'll be speaking to the Judiciary Committee on the 21st, hopefully they let this tiny little bill through to the floor during this short session. HB2481...
