    Do I want a .223 or .308 bolt gun?

Once again I find that El Rojo has expressed the issue better than I could.

    Do I want a .223 or .308 bolt gun?

Knew El Rojo would take my last post in the light spirit in which it was meant. Since all haven't, though, I want to be the first -- and loudest -- to agree with his thorough and thoughtful assessment. The main effect of the SHTF notion is to sell a lot of cheap guns that otherwise wouldn't...

    Do I want a .223 or .308 bolt gun?

Damn, you're right, El Rojo. Guess I was swayed by the fact that I find either an SKS or a scoped bolt gun uncomfortable to sleep with. Perhaps the flack jacket he'll need to sleep with every night will take care of that problem, though. I'm a little disturbed by the apparent presumption...

    Do I want a .223 or .308 bolt gun?

Think, as someone else suggested, you're setting up a false choice of calibers -- and thus rifles. My choice: a good bolt gun in .243 -- more punch at longer ranges, far less recoil than .308, great accuracy, universally available cheap ammo.

    Best beginning shotgun?

Don't have much time, so I'm going to suggest you look up definitions-explanations of skeet and "sporting clays." They're quite different sports. Better yet, and the best advice anyone can give you, go to a skeet range or sporting clays event BEFORE you buy anything. You'll not only get a...

opinions of the Ruger Blackhawk .357/9mm combo

I had one and thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. Sorry I sold it. I shot the 9mm cylinder almost exclusively -- accurate as hell.

    Cheapgunmagazines.com? any good?

No, and for the very reasons that make you nervous, I wouldn't.

    Rifle Accuracy

itgoesboom: You've received many cautious, conservative comments on accuracy, which is great. Still, I bought a Savage after hearing about a zillion folks crow about the out-of-box accuracy of theirs. Mine is a stainless package .223, with a $25 trigger job and a better scope. True to all...

    2nd gun, 1st Shotgun

Among the brands put forth so far, quality is not the issue; but, as always, fit is. The one that feels best is the one you'll shoot best. Main thing pumps have going for them, to my way of thinking, is price. If you'll be limited for time being to just one shotgun, I urge you to at least...

Rosi lever rifles - are they any good?

Had the same caution as you did originally, but after reading about their popularity among cowboy action shooters, I decided to give one in .357 a try. Love it.

    Of course not.

    Saiga 20gauge @ CDNN?

A REALLY nice auto at a great price would be CZ's new offering...before price goes up.

    Marlinowners.com is back!

Just wondering: I ordered, and then rejected, an 1894 SS in .44 mag because of marks (scratches) on a number places on the action and very disappointing wood. My dealer told me that was to be expected in a new gun. I didn't, and don't, believe him. Reason I ask is what would Marlin do if I...

    Recoil: 6.5 Swede vs. 7mm-08 vs. .260

Bear with me: I tore a retina about a year ago and there's still some negative sensitivity in the eye to more than gentle contact, despite very high-priced medical opinion it's good to shoot with. I don't want to push the eye so I'm considering the above calibers and would like very much your...

question about the ruger vaquero in .44 magnum

While I love the looks of the Vaquero, the sights rule it out for me. Compared to the Colt clones, it's built like a tank and I assume would handle a nuclear load, but Vaquero owners will give the best advice. Good luck.

    .260 vs. 7mm-08?

Gewehr98: Obviously you have sources not available to me, since I see no .260's listed under Winchester, Browning, or Savage's web sites for models you listed (or any other, for that matter). Even so, I find those who don't offer the .260 -- publicly -- more impressive, and more telling...

    .260 vs. 7mm-08?

Looking for anything that would tilt my decision one way or the other. Rifle isn't a factor, since I'm re-barreling, and I'm not a handloader. From the ballistics, the two rounds look like a virtual toss-up. Understand they're both relatively mild in the recoil department, but I've never...

Anyone got a CZ 712 yet?

This link from CZ Forum will give you a little more to go on: http://pub105.ezboard.com/fczechpistols82792frm6.showMessage?topicID=442.topic

Anyone got a CZ 712 yet?

There are none in my area to look at, but my favorite dealer checked and could get an order filled today. Know CZ can count on me for another purchase if the gun has the quality they're known for and fits me.
