    Revolver to reload for

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't a 454 operate at pressures and velocities above those optimal for non-GC lead bullets? Sounds like the OP is intent on lead, which I think is great, just trying to save him some possible frustration down the road.

new target load for .357 revolver

Don't you mean "circumference"? ;) Thanks for the info everyone. I've only tried LSWC so far but since my 6" 686 is primarily a range gun I want to give the HBWC a try.

    Please reccomend a first load

That is .7 grains, or almost 25% over the max load as recommended by Hodgdon. If you feel comfortable loading it, by all means go ahead, but I would not recommend that to someone looking for a first load.

    38/357 new reloader

Just started myself, but I'll throw in my .02. Sounds like you are mainly shooting for fun. I like LSWC (Lead Semi Wad Cutter) for plinking. Cuts a nice hole in the target and easy to load. Possibly, depending on how fast you plan on driving them. If you want soft shooting .38 sp target...

    New Dillon 650XL Press

The best advice I can give you is that once you have the press figured out, let me come over from Paoli and see how it works! I'll bring a pound of the powder of your choice.

    Changing my 686 Barrel Length

Well it's not exactly "immediate". It's got about 1k rounds down the tube since I got it, most of which I loaded myself. No clue as to how many it had before that, since the guy who originally owned it is no longer with us. I don't think a barrel made and installed by S&W is very tacticool...

    Changing my 686 Barrel Length

If that's the case, it would definitely be better to just buy another in a different barrel size. I just hadn't been looking since I already had the 6" one. I can definitely see your point about having a good range gun. It is fun, low recoil, low muzzle flip, and certainly more accurate than I am.

    Changing my 686 Barrel Length

Potato and Loosed, that makes a lot of sense. Unfortunately if I was to sell it at the prices most shops/individuals are offering me, I'd probably end up spending more than the $225 difference to buy a new one. Though I suppose I could keep my eyes out for a used 4" and later sell this one to...

    Changing my 686 Barrel Length

As I stated, it was the first gun I ever bought. I didn't know what I wanted at the time, but it was a great starting point. Also, if you have nothing useful to add, why did you post in the first place?

    Changing my 686 Barrel Length

Hey all, Looking for input on the first gun I ever bought myself. Got it from an online estate auction and ended up sinking over $600 into it by the time auction and transfer fees were paid. It didn't come with a box or papers or anything else. Just the gun itself. So my question is the...

Identity and Date of Manufacture of S&W Revolvers

I got one for you. 686-4, 6" (Think it was ported by original owner), round butt. RWC01xx. Here's a picture:

    I got "interviewed" this evening.

I reload .357 mag at around $0.20 a round. I'd be willing to hand over $1.20 or so :)

    Clean before or after sizing

I like your style. A little powder residue never hurt anyone. I guess this is where you start to see who reloads to shoot and who shoots to reload. At least for handgun loads. Rifle is a different animal.

    Smoky .38 Special Reloads

Gamestalker, I agree that it is a problem, but I think that it would be more practical for all parties involved to just have clearer product naming schemes. Thanks MB! I wasn't aware that there was a powder created specifically for that purpose. I'll give it a shot, although according to the...

    Smoky .38 Special Reloads

Jim, I appreciate your concern, and understand that exercising due diligence is necessary when reloading. I had heard Clays/Universal Clays used before when doing research. Being that I just started reloading, I didn't realize that there was more than one type of Clays. I stayed below the max...

    RCBS priming arm parts

Agree with RC. I had the EXACT same problem as you. Here was my JR3 not long after I got it. It had a large primer setup so I ordered this from Midway. Sounds like what you're looking for. When I went to put it on my press, turned out the cup wouldn't slide up and down on the plug, because...

    Smoky .38 Special Reloads

Like this! Note that this is after 2 firings with no cleaning in between. The smoke doesn't bother me at all, but to be polite to others at the indoor range I may pick up some plated bullets for when I shoot there. Thanks for the advice on bumping up the amount of powder. I'll give that a...
