10-22 .22 cal Shorts Odd Question

Will a 10-22 stock from the factory model 188000 fire a .22 short round?
I am pretty sure it will not cycle the rifle the action but an I dealing with the bullet leave the barrel?

Second question, Will the Aquilla 60 grain short not leave the barrel? It is the same size overall size/length of a long rifle. Except the cartridge is shorter but the lead is 60 grain to make up for length. Overall will the 10-22 feed the Aquilla 60 grain since it is long rifle size. I know I will have to work the action myself.

How much noise reduction from the 60 grain shot should I expect.

I really want to be sure the 60 grain bullet makes it out the barrel. Does anyone have a hands on noise report on this setup?

Anyone know the FPS I should espect? If it does works does anyone around have dope chart on the performance?

Still have to funt the Aquilla ammo.
Pardom any mispellings I am exhausted!

The only rounds I have heard issues with not leaving the barrel are Aguila Colibris and Super Colibris. They are a primer-only charge and I believe they have a warning on the box to only shoot from pistols. Now, I have fired the Super Colibris from a rifle and they did leave the barrel, YMMV. Accuracy was terrible though and they have terrible hitting power with their low velicoty and super light bullet.

The 60gr Aguila load is a 22LR and will leave the barrel just fine. I think Aguila has a velocity listed on their website, I've never chrono'd it. They cycle the action on my 597 with no troubles. It is quieter than normal like any subsonic round but you probably still want hearing protection for more than a few shots. Trouble is you will likely find it keyholing at 25yd except in hot weather. The 1:16 twist that 22LR uses just isn't fast enough.

If you want really quiet rounds, Remington CeeBees and CCI CB longs are your answer. These are even slower than the usual subsonic rounds and should feed from your magazine (you'll need to hand cycle them though). Out of a rifle, I honestly feel fine firing these with no hearing protection, they are on par with many of the more powerful air guns for noise.

I have used shorts, in my 10/22, for years for animal control. I have taken head shots at 40 yards and had one shot kills 3-4 times. It is a REAL pain feeding them one at a time but it is quiet.

The 60gr Aguila SSS has a velocity just below the sound barrier, about 950 fps, and when you do the e=mv2 math, the impact energy is 120 ft/lbs same as "standard velocity" .22LR 40gr bullets. It is not a light load like subsonic CB Long, although it smells funny like some of the primer-only super light loads.

Some of my .22 guns like them (my Nylon 66 ejects perfectly). Some do not (Rumanian 1969 trainer does not eject short cases). The recoil impulse is noticably heavier in my Ruger MkII pistol. And not all barrels will stabilize the 60gr bullet.

But, yes, the SSS case is a .22 short case.

I bought a 10/22 mag that was part of a 10/22 .22 short adapter kit.

It has a little piece of brass in the feed lips to accommodate shorts, I think it came with a lighter bolt or recoil spring also.

I took the guts out of the 10/22 and swapped them into a 7/22 mag.

Carl was there any sound reduction out of the rifle compared to a .22LR
