.357 magnum trajectory from a carbine rifle...need some info

I have a Marlin 1894C in .357 magnum that is doing double duty as a hunting longarm for my father this season for whitetail deer; I will scope it with quick release rings in case the gun gets dropped and my dad can switch to open sights

my inquiry deals with the open sights; this rifle has an 18.5" barrel and most trajectory info I find deals with 4" vented test barrels; the ammo to be used is Federal American Eagle 158 gr jacketed softpoints; the local public ranges have 25 yard and 100 yard target stands; the regulations do not allow placement of any other target stands; I am not able to use the open sights at 100 yards on a sighting target (the front dot covers most of an average size sighting target); I will have to sight in at 25 yards

I want zero the open sights to 75 yards...how high over zero should I set the sights when zeroing at 25 yards for a 75 yard zero? thanks

Go to the below URL and fill in the fields on the form. It will plot a trajectory and display a chart for you that will answer your question.

If you don't know the exact info to fill in you'll get pretty close with an educated guess.

For example I chose a 158 gr round nose bullet at 1400 FPS and a 25 yard zero. At 70 yards the drop will be 2.34" and at 80 yards 3.49" which works out to about 2.9" drop at 75 yards.

Using that as a guide you'd need to hold about 3" high at 75 yards to hit what your aiming at with a 25 yard zero.

Who made your quick release rings? I have an 1894 I use for Cowboy Action shooting that I would like to scope.

I'm using the Warne 1" Maxima Quick-Detachable Weaver-Style Scope Rings on my 1894C with a weaver base and a Nikon 2-7x Prostaff scope. I just put it on a couple of weeks ago but seems to work fine.

Can you see the iron sights with just the base on the gun. no rings or scope?

1) base is a Leupold weaver style that someone on here had leftover and sent to me...search the rifle section for 1894 club and scan the thread

2) I selected Leupold QRW steel medium height rings...not cheap by any measure but built strong

3) there is a channel in the base and I can see the Williams sight with the base installed

4) I'll try the link, but I want to know how high to 'hold' the rifle at 25 yards to be zeroed at 75...ie...the 'hold' height will be where I adjust the sights to when shooting at 25 yards to be 'zeroed' at 75 yards
