Does anyone have any good 40 grain Sierra bullet loads for 22-250. I am not looking for fast, but accurate is good. My gun has 14 inch twist in 22 inch barrel. I'll take your load and start lower and work up. Thank you.

I don't use that light bullet in my 22-250, so I'll just recommend that you check out www.hodgdon.com and take a look at the new powders like CFE223 and IMR 8208 XBR as they provide top velocities across the board. The CFE223 is supposed to reduce copper fouling, and the IMR8208 XBR is not affected by temperature extremes.
I use the 52gr Hornady A-Max with 33.3gr of 3031 and CCI LR primer.

I also don't use that light in weight....My .22-250 does well with a .55 gr Hornady V-Max and 36 gr. of Varget.

I use the 52gr. Hor. A-Max with 38gr. of H380 for PD hunting it is deadly on Deer sised game and even hogs. Depending on your rifle it may like a little less or more powder than mine as I use 1 in 12 twist barrel. The H380 was designed to be for the 22-250 by Hodgen himself.

After trying some light bullets 40, 45 Sierra SP, I came to the same conclusion, i.e., that 1:14 twist likes 50 + bullets. Like Old Dog Man, I just loaded (not shot yet) Hornady 52 gr A-max, but with 35 gr IMR4895. I will be trying 38 gr H380 next. I also had to lengthen the COL because of the configuration of the narrow nose A-max bullet, using 2.400". (In my gun it touched lands at 2.4250)
There was no way it would chamber properly at 2.340 or 2.350. Thanks gents for the help.

I personnaly don't shoot bullets that light in my .22-250, but I did help a friend work up a load for his Savage M12 HB.
We started with 38.0gr of Varget (his choice of powder, not mine) and worked up to 41.0gr (book max). We were getting around 4,200fps and under MOA accuracy (near 1/2moa) with a 40gr Nosler Ballistic Tip. He later substituted the 40gr V-max with similar results.
However, the epilog to this story is the important part. He took that load and rifle to Colorado for a p-dog hunt. Got into the dogs good, and got excited and shot up all of his 300rds of ammo in single sitting. The next day, he bought some Win. White Box 45gr factory and shot another 100rds...
But, he noted towards end of first day shoot he was missing more than hitting. After he got back and had cleaned the rifle well, he took it to the range. Low, and behold, his rifle wouldn't shoot under 4moa no matter what he did. I took one look at his bore and showed him how the first 3" of the rifling in his barrel was gone!!! He had burnt out the barrel in one sitting....
He sent rifle back to Savage and they rebarreled it under warranty, with the admonition to "slow down" on shooting the rifle. And, they wouldn't replace the barrel again.
He's switched to a 50gr bullet, and also takes a Bushmaster AR15 Varminter when he goes to take the "heat" off the Savage.....
Past 300yds, the 50gr bullet shoots flatter and exhibits less wind drift......
I use 55-60gr bullets in my Rem. M700ADL (thin barrel). It shoots 55 and 63gr Sierra's over 39.0/38.0gr of H380 into 5shot-1hole groups. I don't shoot it excessivly as I want it to keep doing that....

I use Nosler BT 50 grain over 38 grains of H380 in my Rem 700. In the first try it shot literally one hole group. Quit there.
The 22-250 has a very large capacity for the bore size. Might be a little more difficult to get a good load with that light of a bullet. Gotta be something listed in the load books.

Yes, you all are correct. 50 & 52 are best for my gun, too. Today, my 52 A-max are great, best groups yet. Thanks
