.41 Mag Association

I'm aware of this website but, I'm not dependant on the printed word to make decisions for me. My 260 grainer .41 bullet sports a 93% meplat. I try to learn and live by trial and error(my own experiences). Dont forget to let me know what book Elmer stated that in, please? I'm a big fan of Keiths.

But it is also simple physics the more bullet shank in the case the higher the pressure will be when all else is the same. In fact there is an article discussing this very topic by Brian Pearce in the recent Handloader magazine.

BTW Mr. Stanton is not some run of the mill gun rag writer. He has more knowledge about the effeciveness of cast bullets on game in the hunting fields probably than most people that post here. I for one am not going to refute his knowledge on the subject as it is much more vast than my own.

I wanted to put my two cents in on a post today, and someone pointed out that I should head here! Fun read and I like to read about everyone's input...

I picked up a 44 marlin quite some years ago. It shot terribly and I didn't like it. I sold it and bought a blackhawk in 41. Hmmm... I liked it. So I found a Marlin to go with it, then a Model 57, then a Redhawk, then... Well, you get the picture. It's an illness, but I am currently refusing help.

I just added to the collection an import gun from Italy, an Armi Jager, labeled Liberty Arms Model Nevada. I haven't even seen it yet, and even though it is what it is (a cheap import SAA knockoff), you sure don't see them every day.

I am currently dying for a stainless marlin from the limited run and a dan wesson pistol pac. :banghead:

I just love to shoot the 41, and load for it. I shot a pretty nice buck with my blackhawk flattop last fall. I am wanting to "blood" all of my 41s. Too bad I'm in Illinois, so it has to be for a coyote to get the Marlins some work.

So I've been searching everywhere for load data, but cant seem to find anything for a baseline for 190gr Hornady Flextip bullets. Trying to build a load for a Marlin 1894, any help?

Are you sure these are for .41 magnum? I can't seem to find them anywhere in that configuration/weight.
 
where did you find these bullets? I've never seen much less heard of 190gr .410" bullets in this configuration.
 
Sigh... I will join eventually. It seems like a great cartridge, I just haven't found a good deal on one yet. I will someday, and I will acquire one eventually.

I really need an objective view so to error on the side of safety. Here's my idea and I'm just getting info at this time. I remember my dad and friends many years ago shooting lead round balls as plinking fodder out of their 38 spl and 357's. I found a place that will cast me some .410 to .411 lead round balls. I'm approaching this topic from a new re-loader's stand point because I have no experience in loading round balls. I remember Speer used to show data for like 45 and 44 round ball loads but I never hear of anything printed by a powder company in 41 cal. SO......

A) Have any of you shot a round ball loads in your 41 magnum?
B) Is it possible with a pure lead roundie? S&W 57-1 1-18 1/2 twist? to fast twist?
c) Or am I going down, leaded barrel hell road?

I apologize for sounding like a nervous Nellie, but I take Safety very serious when I reload. Safety is everything to me. I have kids to take care of.

Yes.. RB is an easy route to go.
.411 is going to be where to start. That very little bearing surface on the outer diameter needs the gripping power. I would actually use a 50/50 mix. You must lube those balls. Lee lube will work fine.
Use a very fast pistol powder. 231 works well. Unique is as slow as I would try. Find the lightest load in any manual and then start reducing the charge in .2 grain increments until you reach the "sneeze" load you want.
If loading multiple balls remember the case tapers on the inside and if you push the balls deep you will swage the pure lead down to under diameter. Most leading problems are due to undersized lead bullets.

Anyone that would pay those kind of prices for a .41 must have a screw loose.
 
Many, many, like in forty years ago, I had a 6" and 4" M57. Both beautiful guns. As a deputy sheriff, I carried the 4" version. Fast forward, both M57's long gone and found a new model Blackhawk FT 41M. With a boat load of back problems I never shot it and sold it last week.

However, life is not all bad. I will pickup a new FA M97 6.5" 41M next week. I dug out 250 rds. of home brewed 215gr. SWC's and I am ready to go. ;)
 
PLEASE, don't post a picture of the FA in .41 mag. I've been wanting one of those and a picture might push me over the edge. I've been spending money like a drunk sailor lately and all I need is another gun.
 
.41 MAG, have you ever recovered any of those Rem 200gr SJHP bullets? if so could you post a pic. Also where does one find loading info for that specific bullet? I've been thinking about giving this bullet a whirl just for giggles.

Just purchased a Blackhawk 6 1/2". Ran 100 rounds of GA Arms 210gr cowboy loads through her over the weekend. Very light rounds. I ordered my Lee press recently and will be loading my own shortly.

My other revolver is a Smith 19-3 4" very low round count, 69' vintage. Have 3 Glocks and numerous rifles. .41 is the "Deal" though. Man I love that thing! :D
 
I've had a S&W 57 no dash with an 8 3/8" barrel for several years; however, I guess I should officially join the club. I have been shooting Lee 195 grain SWC's in it with varying loads of 2400. A few years back I decided to start hunting deer with all my handguns working backwards in caliber. I have so far taken deer with the 45 colt and 44 magnum, this year it is the 41's turn.

Have any of you associates contacted Midway about placeing an order with Rem for a run of 170gr SJHP bullets? I did the other day but I'm still waiting to hear back. It would be great if us associates could make a concentrated effort and contact Midway for this bullet, hey you never know.

BTW does anyone remember what the specs were for that ammunition as loaded by Remington?

If we can put together an order thru Midway (or another company) I'll take at least a thousand.
