Just read a few posts that stated that the govt is buying up ALL mil-spec 5.56 X 45 ammo.

AND telling distributors to stop selling to general public or any that sell to commercial distributors, selling to public.

I do not know of a way to find out,but someone here might.

If this is hyperbole, please advise us all.

Can you provide a cite that isn't an anonymous source on some fringe conspiracy site or a repost of same on another forum?

This rumor doesn't even make a bit of sense. Why is there even a question as to it being completely fake?

Considering the military is downsizing the need for the military to purchase more ammo than usual does not make sense. More than likely a conspiracy theory.

Maybe that's why green-tip M855 ammo (the ones spec'ed to penetrate both sides of a blue helmet at 600 yards) is showing up for sale everywhere -- for less than 35¢ per round.

Prices on everything is up and supply is getting spotty. That includes reloading supplies and the guns themselves.

Most anticipate this will continue through the election.

The steel free Yugo 7.62x39 milsurp especially has gone up quickly and most of my regular sources are out of it. That's just because there was a finite supply to begin with, it's cheap and indoor range friendly.

Save that SPP .45ACP brass. You can use it with SRP if you need to. ;)

Seriously? What part of "Can you provide a cite that isn't an anonymous source on some fringe conspiracy site" eluded you? For hell's sake, that same site has the headlines "Researcher Finds Proof Of Area 51 Flying Saucers" and "Claim: Aliens Hiding Major Bases Near Volcanoes". :banghead:

My NCO's always said " A decision is better than no decision "

Guess I kind of figured it was the same with links.

I'm afraid I see that more as you saying, "Misinformation is better than no information." I tend to disagree.

Was the source wearing a tinfoil hat when he provided this "news"? ;)

The Gov't should be buying up all the ammo. They are going to need to clear those aliens out of that Volcano. Just so we are clear, are we talking about Mars Aliens or South of the Border Aliens? Either way, it's gonna get dicey!I ,mean if they live in a Volcano they are probably pretty tough.

For what it's worth we often feel these pinches harder than most because of our bad supply line, and there's no sign of a 5.56 shortage here yet. Lord knows there was a few years ago, along with a very serious shortage of primers and powder. But I just saw a big stack of new 5.56 boxes at the ammo store last week.

Iraq is wrapped up and Afghanistan winding down. Budget cuts are hitting personnel hard. The military has no shortage or supply needs at this point which would necessitate the claimed run on supplies. Furthermore they don't just "buy up" the commercial market supplies. If there are shortages, like last time, the problem is the military's orders take up more production line time at the ammo makers so other things don't get produced.

Jeez dont jump down my shorts ---- please.

I read the posted one from The Reaver also.

And also saw another post from a different source,on a forum dedicated to survival.

2 posts make a news story that I want vetted.

Especially since the TV news dont tell me squat as to a real story.

Take The guns to mexico for example "Fast & Furious".

Has not been on the "news" for months and wont till AFTER the election.

Pardon me for not trusting the "mainstream" to get me the skinny about anything that I might want to know.

I wouldn't be surprised if the government tries to buy it all up, whether its a conspiracy to keep us away from it or not. Government is weird, especially when you're not involved in it. Expecting a government to make sense is like expecting the weather forecast to be right. Don't count on it. Also, just because something weird happens doesn't always mean its malicious. Sometimes it can just be a lack of communication between departments, or simply plain old stupidity.

As for what I DO see happening, I see plenty of 5.56x45 and civilian .223 available. Stores where I am are full of it, and you can get 1,000 rd lots of brass case green tip penetrator ammo on MidwayUSA for under $400. If anything that "penetrator" ammo is more available than ever. If the government is buying extra, factories will increase production to meet that need. There might be a short-term shortage, but why would companies pass up the chance to keep making profits on a lucrative civilian market? Where there is a dollar to be made, there will be somebody there to make that dollar.

However, the prices are rising. The lies I do know the government tells are the inflation numbers....

So your first reliable source was the site talking about alien bases in volcanos?
And also saw another post from a different source,on a forum dedicated to survival.
And another random forum had a post from what I suspect was an equally reliable source. Of course, since it showed up here (twice, actually), now we have a third place.

Right, there is a total media blackout, unless you count these mainstream articles from the last week:

http://www.washingtontimes.com/blog...-issa-and-grassley-demand-answers-holder-rec/

No offense, but one would hope there is some kind of middle ground between the mainstream media and alien conspiracy sites to find information. Claiming that this might be true because you don't feel the MSM provides enough coverage for an unrelated event is little more than a red herring.

It's good you asked, but as you can see, we have people who just post the link to the original site as verification. You heard it from a couple of places, you ask if it is true, someone provides proof from the same source. Now we will have people who see it here and go off to post it on another site, and another, and another, and it ends up like that stupid wheel marking warning from a few weeks ago.

I just spent some time on that site (Before its News). Wow, what veritable fountain of flapdoodle.

The author seems hardly educated, he does not know the difference between "steal" and "steel", nor "they're" and "their" (just a few of several examples).

I really do have a hard time taking people that do not understand basic grammar and sentence structure seriously. And he is anonymous

The author says $440 for 420 rounds of Federal surplus?.....How about this? $160 for 420 rounds....

Judging by how that article was written I'd say some shmuck knows how to use headers. "I've called a lot of distributors," are we supposed to buy that?
