There has been an increase in sales but this is NOT a "run" on ARs. I have checked with every major dealer within 40 miles and the ONLY ones who are out of ARs are the high traffic big box stores like Cabelas and Sportsmans Warehouse.

If you want an AR, there are still PLENTY of them available.

I found a store within walking distance that had Bushmasters. I found another small gun store just barely outside of walking distance that had two Rock Rivers. I found a medium sized gun store within 10 miles that has DPMS rifles for a good price. Basically, every single small business FFL I checked still had ARs and a few AKs.

I think what is going on here is a bunch of TALK. It's not a "run" and it's not a "panic." A few purchasers are panicking but if you want an AR or AK it's not that hard if you live in a decent sized city in a fairly pro gun state.

The gun industry is not set up to handle much of an increase in sales because it is always a target of tyrants and other lawyers, and because most of society is anti gun. That's right I said it, most of society and most people in it are anti gun and even many gun owners are anti EBR (evil black rifle for the newbies). Most of the population is female and a majority, a VAST majority of men do not own an EBR. I think a majority of men are non gun owners nowadays thanks to a poisoning of our culture. Some men can be nagged out of that slumber but most cannot be once they're in it.

My assessment of the situation is that it isn't a strong enough "run" to send a strong message to obama and his crew yet. When ALL of the ARs are off the shelves THEN we can call it a "run" and a "panic." Most of the increase in sales is due to guys who are already gun owners. I'm saying this because we still need to wake up the guys we know who are spineless and say "Yea I'd love an assault rifle but my wife would kill me" :cuss:
  2. Did something happen to you as a child that makes you constantly question someone's manliness if they don't own an a semiautomatic rifle?

You ranted about the same thing just a few days ago. Why the personal umbrage that there are still rifles on the shelves? Do you think that seeing a bunch sold is going to suddenly change the certain politician's minds about the subject?

I can't find any locally and the dealers have told me their suppliers are back ordered for months.

In Northern Illinois both G.A.T. Guns and Megasports have tons of rifles left.

This is a run, but it is not nearly as bad as when Clinton was elected and started pushing his "assault weapons" bill. At that time, highcap mags and AR-15s ran out almost overnight. It was incredible. Maybe people are rating Obama's chances at getting that bill through as less than Bill's, and I would say that is correct.

I'll never understand why I hear so many of these "my wife won't let me!" excuses. What kind of man lets his wife boss him around like that? I was just talking to a guy the other day who was saying how much he wanted to get a Garand and a .38 revolver but "my wife won't allow it." He said that someone in her family committed suicide by shooting himself, and so she refuses to have a gun in the house. I was like, "you don't even try to convince her to see things your way?" This guy is one of those practically evangelical libertarians - all he ever talks about is how everyone should be able to own whatever they want and how we should all buy silver and prepare for the collapse of the economy, etc etc...total pro-individual-rights type...but he allowed the irrational fears of his wife dictate his freedom?

A married one. Social contracts trump personal desires (usually).

B B B But, golf is more PC.......... I know guys who have a driver that costs more than your average AR. You know, I never could stomach smallball. I'd rather go to the range, not the driving range. There's a lot more golf courses out there though. Wouldn't that be cool if your boss invited you to the GUNRANGE to shoot a few holes !!!!

Your gonna get a bunch of guys mad with that "My wife owns my a$$" talk !

Well, what fun is "steeleyed serious" all the time ??????

I have heard golf compared to shooting sports many times.

    Golfers cry, shooters smile !

To stay with the topic, I went through all of this stuff about eight years ago when Bush /Gore was the debate theme. I stayed with it and found that I DO enjoy shooting and I shoot more than I ever did back then.

I was at my local dealer to pick up my CAN that just got approved last Friday. What a zoo! Place was full and all 4 customer reps were busy. One selling a handgun the other's AR's.

One poor guy was pleading with the owner to cut him a deal on an AR. You could see the customer did not want to let it out of his hands. I have been there and done that!

Owner said that he only had what was on the wall to sell and that he could not get anymore AR's for a few weeks. Supplier prices went up $300 after election. Take it or leave it. Sounded like the guy had come in before the election and did not buy and now he came back post OBOMINATION and the prices went up. I swear the customer was ready to cry. Owner stood his ground and would not offer to budge on price nor offer any discounts on mags (no high caps left) or ammo (not much left). I completed my business and left before he starting sobbing.

    Demand is high!

Women own EBR's, too, and the color of your rifle's stock does not make you "manly". Enough with the "man card" business.

I own an AK, am passably competent with it, and gradually becoming more so. I also carry a S&W Ladysmith. Neither in any way is a reflection of masculinity, or lack thereof.

Gun ownership is not a gender thing; it is a freedom thing.

You're wrong, it's BOTH. I hate to break it to ya but men and women are different. I'm glad you own a semi auto military-ish gun but don't distort the truth just because .00000000001% of women own EBRs.
    That is funny :D

I would say that demand is high-ER. We forget that we (gun owning EBR guys) are a minority within a minority). I see a lot of talk and a few more ebr purchases than before the election, but don't assume that every big talker is opening his wallet because as I said, if anyone WANTS an AR, they can still find plenty.

    Hey T,

I HUNT WITH MY EBR !!!!!

But the dadgum ranger has to jack with me everytime he sees me with it.

You're incorrect that owning an AK isn't a reflection on masculinity.

Actually "Real" men shoot something more than a .223, unless ordered otherwise by a superior officer. :neener:

    Sex Ratio in America

From the original post. I guess technically speaking "most" of the population is female, but not by much. However, to think that "most" of the population is the cause of decreased or discourages gun ownership is a stretch.

United States: Estimate: 97 Males/100 Females, Margin of Error: +/-0.1 Males/100 Females
Source: U.S. Census Bureau, 2006 American Community Survey

This ratio is as low as 88/100 in some northeast and southern states and Puerto Rico or as high as 104/100 in NV & AK.

Amen,+1,you bet.Remember Zumbo? He was the guy who trashed EBR's and lost his job at a major magazine, for P.O.ing all the EBR guys?Let's not do it in reverse, either. We must all hang out together,or surely they will hang us all, separately.
