Ok here we go...

First, show some respect. The 30-30 has taken more North American big game than most other calibers combined. Deer, black bear, boar, even caribou and elk and moose. 100 years ago the 30-30 was the 300WSM of its day. A hot-rod round that ruffled the feathers of the old folks.

the .17 can do anything that the 22LR can do... only better. Varmints beware.

I think you should work on more descriptive thread titles and perhaps keep questions related to rifle calibers to the rifle forum.

Just a suggestion. You'll get more folks into the thread if you do those things.

Those are two of my favorite rounds!

The .30-30 is perfect for deer here in the piney woods of south Texas.

When fired from the lever rifle, it offers about the same power level as an AK47 in an accurate, quick handling, reliable, economical package.

Millions of deer have been taken with this round.

The .17 HMR is fun!

It offers exceptional accuracy and flat shooting in a small package.

The bullet's trajectory allows the shooter to ignore bullet drop and hit within 1/2" of the point of aim from 25 yards out to 125 yards.

When shooting at squirrels, prairie dogs, targets, or just plinking for fun the .17 HMR allows the shooter to consistently shoot better than is possible with a .22LR.

The high velocity makes things like full soda cans or fruit explode.

Again, it's an economical answer to fun, accurate shooting.

I highly recommend you try both of these rounds out!

17hmr is good up to coyote size game, out to 100 yds, and good for all smaller game, as far out as you can hit them. After 80 yds, they have more energy than a 22 mag, and with a 100 yds zero, it only rises .5 inches at 50 yards, and only drops 5 inches, all the way out to 165 yards!!!! I am totally amazed and hooked on the 17's right now. The new 17 rem fireball, is good for smacking game, coyote size and smaller, out to 400 yds. these two rifles alone , can take care of all your small game/varmint jobs from up close, out to 400 yds away. these were done, with a 17 hmr.
