Any good estimates of a Remington 700 mfg date?

I just received a gorgeous Remington 700 BDL, from a former Remington dealer who received the rifle as a "thank-you" from the regional Remington representative in the 1970's. While I doubt it's a 700 Custom Grade I, it comes awfully darned close to that in the mirror blued metal finish, jewelled bolt, and fancy grade wood with prominent grain and figure, ebony forend cap and grip cap, with thin white-line spacers.

The barrel has the Ilion, New York rollmark, the safety locks the bolt when engaged, and the serial number reads "67998xx". The barrel is stamped nearest the receiver with a small "EY R".

I know the 700 BDL first appeared in 1962, anybody have an idea when this one left Ilion? It definitely isn't a run-of-the-mill WalMart Remington 700. Even my 700 PSS looks rough as a cob compared to this gun. As soon as I get a chance, I'll put pictures up of the old girl. The previous owner left her basically untouched, save for a nice old Redfield 2-7x scope with Redfield rings and mount.

Number 6511XXX was made in 1972.

    Oct/Nov 1974. Sounds like a 700 BDL "Custom Deluxe".

Didn't know there was a Custom Deluxe...

But this gun sounds, or rather looks, exactly like the description given in the books. :D

    Remington 700s ... When Manufactured?

Hey Jack, can you look up year of manufacture for: A62753XX and A65594XX?

    What does the "A" mean?

    These are Remington 700s.

What else can you tell me about them?
