Any info on Hi Point Arms?

I have an opportunity to purchase a Hi Point .45 acp and a Hi Point 9mm compact at a very reasonable price for the pair ($175.00).

Who has information on these pieces? I'm not too familiar with the brand. Looks like they would make decent truck/car guns. My wife and I both CC, so that's not a problem. WE both usually carry Colt or Beretta - .45 for me, 9mm for her.

What I like is that they're cheaper than dirt and have a "forever" warranty from Hi Point. What I don't know is the dependability of the pieces.

If you are comfortable and satisfied with what you have already, I, for one, don't see any problem with getting them. Certainly there will be folks jumping in to say get a surplus this or used that or save up for whatever instead but I've not had any problems with mine (9 mm), just a couple misfeeds that I can recall over ~1800 rounds. Certainly a good beater gun, IMO. If I infer correctly, you folks will not be using these for CC (which would be my suggestion).

If you can, see if you get a chance to work the slide on one, particularly your wife. The slides are pretty stiff and the final ~½" of rearward travel is a bit hard to pull.

Theres really no other choice in Hi-Points price range as far as im concerned.Youre getting your choice of .380,9x19,40S&W and .45acp in a NEW,warranted gun for a great price.Yah,it would be nice if they had a milled slide but people dont complain about Walther P22's having a cast slide because its a Walther!!!!!!!! OOOOOOOOOoooooooooHHHHHHHH!!!

That price seems about $100 too high to me. So many other handguns in that price range that are so much better.

They are pieces of crap. The triggers and sights suck. They are not relaible. Use at your own risk.

As much as I hate the look/feel of these guns I have to say alot about the way they function. MOST of them run like a Ruger S/Auto.....Reliability is NOT one of their weak points............

Hi-Point sights are as good as or better than ANY gun sold today.They even give you a ghost ring just in case you want to use it.Every person whos shot mine has remarked at how nice the sights are for such an inexpensive gun.

So, you've only seen pics?
In person, it's not Thaaaaat bad. Not great either.
The feel, fit, and finish inspired a little more confidence than a lorcin, or Jennings in My opinion.

I would rather use a slingshot (not really), but that is how I voted. Reason you ask? The HP is too large and heavy for me to CC. If you want it for plinking or the glovebox or trunk, I say go buy it!

My JC 40 (or was it a JS 40...) was easily the worst centerfire pistol I've owned. Ever. Major reliability problems. I bought a spare OEM mag and it wasn't any better. Firing it alongside my Ruger P91 was night and day. One of them worked (flawlessly) and one didn't. I remember when the carbines came out and everybody was raving about them. Ugh. I don't actually dislike much. Most things can be made to work, but this was an absolute nightmare.

What Pat said was pretty much spot on. The sights blew. The trigger sucked. And the whole contraption didn't appear to be built to withstand disassembly more than a handful of times. IIRC, in order to take the slide off you had to lock it back and actually knock the striker bushing out with a punch? (been awhile) Not real conducive to good maintenance schedule. A straight blowback .40 auto? Should have been my clue #1

There are satisfactory weapons available for $175. Don't let the two-fer less than $200 fool you. These are little better than modern semi-semi-automatic (not a typo ) Liberators.

There are better quality USED guns out there for that price. I'd choose from them LONG before I'd consider a Hi-Point...

For $175 you can get a CZ-52 and some ammo, or a Tokarev and some ammo. Either of which is a far better choice than the Hi Point.

The value of using a Hi-Point for CCW is that when you draw and point it at a BG, he will be helplessly rolling on the floor, gasping for breath, laughing himself silly. It will then be easy to drop the Hi-point on his head, thus knocking him unconcious!
Just kidding, I'm sure they are great firearms, ow, must remember, when putting tongue in cheek, don't bite down!
