E.R. Shaw vs Wilson barrels -

All things being equal for each, feature for feature, etc... Is one better than the other? Are they pretty much of equal quality? Or is this pretty much the "Ford vs Chevy" type situation?

Again, equal options comparisons... i.e. chromed vs chomed... chrome-molly vs chrome-molly... etc...

I have a Wilson barrel on my service rifle and it shoots very well. I've been told that the reason Shaw barrels are so much cheaper than everyone else is because they omit the step of reaming the bore to size after drilling and before rifling. I do not know this to be fact but it makes sence. I do know that the half dozen Wilson barrels I've used and installed on service rifles have been fairly smooth in the bore and all have shot good scores at Camp Perry.

I got a E.R.Shaw 24" BBL and it had burs on gas port that would tear the bullet causing flyers and I could not shoot them out, so after about 800 rounds I had to file the inside of the hole to get it to shoot correctly. It worked and now it shoots just fine.

I have a handful of Shaw barrels and they all work fine. Accuracy is decent, and they don't foul any more quickly than any other field-grade barrel I've owned.

In many cases, I use Shaw barrels because I can get them in chamberings and profiles that I cannot get elsewhere.

I have a 16 inch chrome lined shaw barrel, pencil profile. It shoots great.

Well, it sounds like, for all intents and purposes, that one is as good as the other and I shouldn't worry too much about an upper with either...

    Thanks for the info...

schlep, find a GOOD gunsmith and let him pick the barrel.
