So I am carrying my Benchmade folder at the Modern Day Marine expo at Quantico, and I walk up to the Benchmade booth and ask them what improvements could be made to my knife. It is an older knife, the blade has Benchmade USA on one side, and Emerson on the other. Some of you know the entire history I'll bet. Anyway, the guy says, "Let me send it in and they'll take a look. We don't have that blade anymore."

This was last Thursday. Last night, I got home and there was a box from Benchmade, and inside was my knife with a new belt clip, and the original blade still there, but polished and sharpened (part straight/part serrated) to such a sharp edge that I can shave my arms with it.

One week turnaround. Coast to coast. Not a penny.

Benchmade - now that is customer service.

Recently experienced Benchmade Customer Service when I sent in a 13 year old auto that I have simply abused on the farm. Result? They not only sharpened it but gave it a complete overhaul with new springs, screws, and bushings. Charge to me? Nothing. Great customer service and a quality product as well.

When I bought my benchmade, I was surprised I was willing to pay what I did. It is by far the most expensive blade I have purchased. IT WAS SO WORTH IT.

My only complaint is Benchmade's process for repair work on auto's. You have to certify that you are a government employee to comply with federal guidelines for shipping automatic knives. So, even if it's legal for you to own an automatic knife in your state, you're pretty much out of luck if you're no longer, or never were, a government employee.

Laws regarding automatic knives vary from state to state. While it might be perfectly fine for you to own/buy/carry an automatic knife in your state, it might be illegal for Benchmade to mail it out to you through their own state.

I buy knives based on quality and customer service. Benchmade have fulfilled those needs of mine.

They could return ship to local Benchmade dealers though. Other manufacturers do this.

Don't get me wrong. I like my Benchmade knives. I just think they could leverage their dealer network to provide better service to their customers.

Benchmade service...

I had occasion a short while back to contact the maker for some small screws, the fasteners for the carry clip... and was very pleasantly surprised by their prompt and very courteous response (all without charge..). Can't say enough good things about the way they stepped up.

One of the guys I work with had one for years that he eventually broke the tip off. It was his own fault and he knew it. Benchmade is only a few hours from where we live so he just drove up there and told them what happened and asked what his options were. They sold him a new knife for a little bit of nothing and took his old one free of charge and reground it into a new blade again. It's a tiny bit shorter now but it works perfect still. He was very very happy with the way he was treated.

This thread makes me pretty happy about the beat to snot (cosmetics only) Mini Griptillian that clips inside my front jeans pocket everyday.
