I have no problem shooting my rifle on a benchrest, but I have a problem using it with my pistols to test my reloads. I can't seem to keep the front end stable, so do I need to have a stronger grip and keep the pressure down against the rest? Any advice appreciated.
What works for me is to rest the forend (I shoot mainly Encores & Contenders but with other handguns the principle is the same) on a sandbag. I also have a sandbag for the butt end but rest the butt on both a sandbag and partially on the palm of my hand. For the rear bag I'm using the "rabbit ears" type and there is an angle off the edge. The bag forms one half of a V and my palm the other half. I know it sounds a bit clumsy but it works for me.
The pictured 1.5 inch 200 yard group was shot using this technique.
