Berretta 21a, a pleasant surprise

I bought a used Berretta 21a in 25 acp yesterday. I paid $160. It was an impulse buy. I was concerned about reliability and had a little buyers remorse going on. I took it to the range tonight and it ran great through 50 rounds of American Eagle and 50 rounds of Remington. The real surprise was how accurate it was at 7, 10 and 15 yards. It is amazingly easy to clean and a lot of fun to shoot. I had a Taurus TP22 with the same tip up barrel design. I could never get it to run through a magazine without a jam.

My TP-22 went to factory twice for light strikes They never fixed That why I have the 21A now in 22. As we discussed on another post. Glad your's worked out well today at the range.

Yesterday I was testing my new Beretta 21A in 22. Their suppose to be hit and miss or so some say. (this my 2nd one )
I was also trying out a new gun lube brand TruRecoil . I used CCI LR standard velocity lead round nose ammo. My 16 year old daughter and I fired 100 rounds , as fast as we could reload , the mag and fire . I wasn't trying for accuracy I wanted to see if this pistol would work. With this new 100% synthetic blend gun oil and lead bullets. 100 rounds no duds no jams. The oil has already passed in my Colts and Dan Wesson

My mother recently bought one and we both love it, sweet little pistol that is reliable (for a few mags than a quick scrubbing fixes it). With the .22 it likes to be clean and loaded with CCI Stingers or minimags.

Thats what I was trying to get away from "a few mags and scrub" . Why? I have shot over 500 rounds at one sitting in my MKII Ruger I almost never clean it other than patch the barrel when done shooting .
I also wanted to see if this would fire plain lead ammo at standard velocity. No more expensive stinger or mini mags.. I normally use stingers but why not use cheaper if can . The Beretta took the 100 rounds with out trouble. I think that lube help Slide was really easy to rack after using . I know has a tip up I was seeing how this new lube felt.

I think that the type of lubrication used on a small blow-back pistol is important, to get them to run reliably.

I've wanted to get a 21a in .22LR for awhile just for fun. I have several small autos in various calibers, but they are to pricey to shoot as often as I would like to.

The reason why is because it doesn't have an extractor, gunk in the chamber keeps the casing from extracting.

Well I didn't have much gunk after a 100 rounds with the oil I was using I bet I could have went another 100 or more. That what I want 200 or more rounds with out any stopping to clean.
I bought my first Beretta 950 in 1980 and have owned several since. It was a Beretta 950 I drew on the would be robber in a parking garage early one morning . He decided his pocket knife wasn't up to the job against a puny 25 auto and made like the road runner.

Make sure you watch part 1 and part 2 of one of the most wonderful, unique guns ever made. Keep in mind that the price of ammo has gone through the roof and the higher the caliber the more weight, more recoil and longer recovery for a second shot. This is the only caliber in the world that can be shots thousands of times without breaking the bank. As little as 3 cents a round for practice 6 cents for the highest quality round (CCI mini mag) and 12 cents a round for STINGERS, the fastest, highest quality and most devastating round also made by CCI. IMHO
