Best .22 LR High Velocity Ammo?

I have a Magnum Research Magnumlight .22LR on order; 17" Graphite / Stainless Barrel. I am mounting a Bushnell Elite 5X15X50 AO scope, and will be using this for rabbits, tree rats & other vermin out to 100 yards.

I am looking for the best compromise of power & accuracy, assuming a 75 yard zero. Suggestions???

yes, CCI minimags, with the RN or HP bullets. They shoot well in everything I have.

With a .22 you really have to do some experimenting tho.

Since every gun, rifle, pistol, etc. shoot differently, I would buy one small box of each (smallest boxes possible), go to the range and the ones that are the tightest group for your gun, go back and buy all of them that are left.

Then you know you have a tack driver with that ammo.
Change ammo and start all over again.

I have a 10" Ruger Mark II with trigger and action work. Really accurate with Eley Pistol Bullets. They are not the fastest through the chronograph, but they are by far more accurate than anything else I tried.

Other user's mileage may vary.

100 yards is pretty far out there for a .22. Here's a post I did showing the trajectory of Mini-Mags out to 100. They really start falling the last 25 yards or so.

As far as the ammo thing, Mini-Mags seem to be the most consistently accurate of any high velocity ammo that I've used. Velocitors will shoot about as well in a couple of my guns, and are significantly flatter trajectory.

MR recommends this for the gun as well, so I am leaning towards them. I like the 65 yrd zero; looks like dead POA @ 20 yrds as well, which as you suggested is about perfect for a .22. That will be my plan, then. Thanks for the help.

Can't do the stingers in the MR; it has a BENTZ chamber & it is too tight for them. I agree otherwise; my Marlin 7000 likes them.

I second what inspector said try different stuff in YOUR rifle and see what is most accurate. For instance I have 2 10/22s and each are accurate with different ammo. One likes CCI blazers and the other likes CCI mini mags.

I like Winchester Power Point Hollow Points. Full up 40 grain bullet hits hard and penetrates, snappy velocity, a hollow point design that actually mushrooms, copper plated jacket doesn’t have all the waxy goo of plain lead bullets, ½ the price of the foo-foo high velocity stuff (Velocitors, Stingers, etc) so you can shoot twice as much for the same money, excellent accuracy in just about everything.

Believe it or not, standard velocity 40 grain LR Match will give less wind drift at long range then the lighter faster Stingers and such.

Probably better accuracy too.

What you need to do though is buy a box of every brand you can find and test them all in your rifle.
Nobody can tell you what it will shoot best.

For practice, try Blazers--basically the same as mini-mags, but cheaper.

For longer shots at game, I'd recommend Stingers.

I used to shoot a lot of .22 metallic silhouette. My rifle is a Kimber M82 with a Burris 4X scope. I zeroed at 75 yards (or 50 feet -- a 50 foot zero is at the first intersection of trajectory and line of sight. The second intersection is at 75 yards.) With that zero, the point of impact at 100 yards was right at the top of the lower thick part of the vertical crosshair. Since the ram, the 100-yard target, is about the size of a squirrel, I got pretty deadly on late-season squirrels -- I could accurately judge the range and knew where to hold.

+1 on Winchester Power Points. Besides great performance on game, the accuracy is match grade. Function has been perfect in all .22's I have tried it in.

Well it's NOT the Aguila Super Maximum - Yes, they come out at 1,700 but you cannot hit anything with them.

I like CCI mini mags and Remington Viper. The CCI Stinger's are nasty, but suffer horribly in a handgun barrel. They're like the .22 Magnum, in that they use slower powder to achive their high (1,640 FPS) velocity. They're great from a rifle, though.

CCI Velocitors are pretty fiesty, The same speed as a Stinger but in a 40gr hollow point bullet. I'm afraid that you might be limited with your Bentz chamber though, as I believe they have a longer case like the Stingers.

The 333 round Winchesters always seemed to be pretty hot to me, Might want to give them a try.

Agulia Super Extra 36 gr hollow points Eley primed, shoot very well out of my Bentz chambered 10-22 , MKII target,Western Auto Revelation copy Marlin 60.

The hollow points will do their deadly duty on any small game. 100yds! heck I cant see that far, really I try to keep my head shots on squirrel, and SETTING rabbits to a minium, I won't take a shot at anything over 50 even with the scope cranked up to 18X. Shooting from a bench with a front rest and rear bunny ear bag the 10-22 with the 18 power scope will shoot all 10 into a nickel size ragged hole a 50 yds.

Try the Agulias you will like them!

Have had excellent results in my Marlin 60 with CCI MiniMags. Great out to 100yds on clay pigeons.

Remington Thunderbolts (older...not new manufacture)
Winchester T22 Target
CCI Green Tag (hurts the wallet)

well, high velocity .22 ammo may shoot a little flatter, but it won't be very accurate at 100 yards, it goes trans sonic before then. If you want accuracy at 100 yards from a .22 then you need sub sonic ammo, but you have to acount for the drop more, and it'll hit with a little less of a punch.
