This would get rid of a major roadblock to those interested in purchasing a pistol in Mi! Let us purchase pistols like free citizens instead of asking the king "please, sir, may I get a pistol?"

If you do not know who your reps are, check here: http://house.michigan.gov/find_a_rep.asp

Perhaps. The "golden rule" does often hold true, but you can hope that a representative government will occasionally serve its purpose...

Just to help overcome any writers block out there, here's a letter I just sent off.

BluEyes, if you haven't sent that yet, you have a typo ...
got missed by your spellchecker, since "ear" is a word.

is sort of clumsy as well

Argh. Typing on multiple different computers and I often get "light strikes" :) on this one...

Yeah, guess I could have phrased that a bit better. Still working on this writing thing.

BluEyes, I didn't want to mock your writing, just trying to prevent an error carried forward if anyone else uses it.

Generally you can get free proofreading in the activism section, by the way ... any more Michiganders (Michiganites? Michiganeers? Michiganigans? Michicanauts?) who are sending a letter could probably get a free proofread here, I'll do it when I drop in (no promises on exactly when, but I tend to wander through when bored) and I'd assume other members would be willing also.

There are downsides to removing the registration requirement. It relates to carrying open within 1,000 feet of a school (which is pretty much everywhere).

With the way things are setup now, if your home was close to a school and you didn't have a CPL you could still open carry while walking your dog because you had to get a purchase permit.

Remove the permit and you are no longer covered to OC in this 1,000 foot school zone. You can't even go outside to flip burgers on your back porch.

The OC crowd is not in love with the idea of the purchase permit going away unless the 1,000 ft school restriction disappears at the same time.

I've got my CPL so I don't care. Never jumped on the "paying for a CPL is like paying a fee to vote and I won't do it" bandwagon.

The way I am reading it, the bills would replace the purchase permit with the pistol sales record that CPL holders use, so everyone would still be registered.

The hell with urban-side OC idiots. Keep your weapon out of view and don't bring trouble to yourself. "oh, but I don't have a CPL"....THEN GET ONE.

Then the bill is not a progressive move in the RKBA.

Activism DISCUSSION is where RKBA related discussion is appropriate.

This forum is for the presentation of plans supporting RKBA and how to make those plans better or more effective.

Let's see some more letters like Blue Eyes provided or more ideas about what the pivotal politicians are in getting change in Michigan.
