BUIS

Need opinions and advice on a good choice of BUIS for an AR (Bushmaster XM15 E2S model to be exact). I am only interested in buying the rear BUIS, no need for the front. I am currently looking at the MagPul BUS (Rear). Cost is not the top concern, although I don't want to drop over $60 on a single BUIS. I just want something that is reliable, fairly rugged/tough and will get the job done if my main reflex sight goes out of commission. Also, I prefer a flip-up/down type sight. Any input will be appreciated, thanks.

Well, the magpul is the cheapest one I've seen that I would put some faith in(but only a little), I still prefer quality metal sights over the magpul.

Shop around and see If you cant find some good other brands on sale.

Troy, YHM, Larue and a few others make great flip up sights that are reliable and precise... they will probably cost over 60 though.

This area, like red dot sights and optics, is basically expensive quality options where youre paying for the name, or unreliable chinese knockoffs that have cheap prices.

Just remember that the sights (or optics) are your only interface between you and the target.

Of course if its just a cheapy range toy that your not planning on using in competition, home defense, or when the UN zombies join forces with the vampires, search E-bay for a cheap set of metal flip ups and kill paper at the range, then replace as needed.

Thanks for the input. I do care about spending too much on it, but like I said, I am willing to pay a bit more for reliability and ruggedness, but definitely nothing worth over $100 total. I have pretty good faith in MagPul's products (I have a MIAD grip and Pmags) and they have never given me any problems. Don't know if I should hold the BUS to the same standard, but it seems like a good deal for the price.

There's no beating their price, but all I've heard about them is that theyre just a backup. I dont know many people who run them for hard use. What are you planning on using the weapon for?

Hopefully someone with more experience with the Magpul can chime in. but if your willing to break the 60 dollar mark, you should be able to bargain shop around for a good quality set of metals that will be more durable.

Primarily for home defense...I do some plinking/recreational shooting/target practice once every month...Besides that, the gun sees no action.

If it's for HD, I'd say look into a set of Troys, other than thats one area I dont skimp on, the Magpuls last time I checked, did not have the large aperture, the one used for close range and night time shooting.

Odds are, if you use it for home defense, it will be during hours of low light. I usually keep my BUIS deployed up, with the large app so I can use it up close and at night, rather than being in a dark room trying to use daytime long range sights.

Still hoping someone else can chime in, but last time I checked, the magpuls did not have the night aperture.

I ran Rob Pincus' carbine course. I saw a set of LaRues and a set of Troys self destruct. I used a set of Brownells HK Diopter sights without issue--you can drive nails with this thing, using IT as the hammer.
