I ordered some boat tail spitzer type bullets for my omega, and went shooting with them today for the first time. they weigh 375 grains, and I was useing 150 grains of pyrodex RS. (Trying out the 200 yard muzzleloader idea) They shoot into nice groups at 50 yards, (sub 2" for 5 shots) but I was unable to get high enough on the paper to shoot them any farther out. I use a williams peepsight on the gun and I'm all out of elevation on it. I need to bring bullet strike up if I want to use these bullets for whitetails. Any suggestions from the peanut gallery???

(OK, let the boo hissing begin about the 200 yard muzzleloader thing begin)

Install a "shorter" front sight and/or try working your way up from a lighter powder charge. Less velocity = more muzzle rise before the bullet leaves the barrel = higher POI on target.

Or you could just stick a scope on it.

Or you can file down the front sight and that will cause you to bring the muzzle up higher.

Solution is simple...double the charge.....say bye bye world
half the bullet weight....
shave sight down tilll " . " this high
or better still sneak up on Yankees till they are 100 yards away

Sorry RevolverFTF - war's over. You can trade tobacco for coffee without worrying about an impromptu truce or the provost arresting you. ;)

BTW, my blacksmith instructor is a Virginian and he can't seem to say "Yankee" with it's prefix, "d****d." Read somewhere that there was a Southern Gal who didn't realize until she was about 19 that "d****d-Yankee " was two words. :D

Appreciate your advice...being a d****d yankee has thrown more of your southern women into my waiting arms then I care to admit...Keep telling your daughters to avoid us.....the more they want us....

FYI RevolverFTF - I'm from the Caliphorniabad. My bloodline doesn't trace back to the Wah-oh (as a Virginian corrected my one syllable pronunciation).

OK, aside from the north-south skirmishin'... I finally caved and put a 2-7 scope on it. I really tried to avoid it... some sort of historical thing, but I didn't want to scope it. Things are better now, with the Omega putting bullets in the X ring. You know, where they're supposed to go.

Oh, by the way, I too have found a good number of southern belles that "are sweet on" this d****d yankee.:neener:

Oh, yeah, and nobody out there wants to rabble rouse about 200 yard MZ's??
