Does it really matter if i buy used gear for reloading like dies, trimmers etc? I know like anything else it depends on how it was taken care of but do dies wear out or is there anything else i should worry about?

I have bought dies used. Never have had a problem. I have one powder throw used too, a Uniflow. It works great. depends on what you buy, I guess.

I have a used Redding Model 1400 Case Trimmer I was going to list. I'm not sure if this is one of the trimmers you are interested in but if so let me know.

Reloading equipment is pretty sturdy and not subject to being worn or broken, just neglected and rusted. Get a look before you buy. The main problem with used reloading gear is its habit of coming in without all the parts and no instructions.

I think you can make some good buys by buying used. Sometimes the used item may have little or no wear which makes it better than new.
I always look for bargains buy looking at used stuff.

I just helped a buddy get set up,and he saved quite a bit by shopping this board and the cast boolit board for good buys.
It's the shipping that can kill the deal unless yo're saving enough on the purchase to offset it.

Post a wtb...want to buy..here in the classifieds for what yu want and see how it goes from there.

I'm just getting back into reloading after a 20 year absence, I'm getting almost all of my gear of of e-bay, or GunBroker.com; it's almost all used, and works fine. The two things I've bought new are my brass cleaner; got tired of messing around and being out bid, and the reamer, no one had a used one for a good price.

Quality reloading gear is made from thick, durable metals, and with a little attention, will last virtually forever. The more moving parts, the more likely something will break, but there isn't much- even in a progressive (Compared to, say, a typical farm tractor for example).

Even neglected and disused gear, with some attention and elbow grease, can be made to look and work like new.

You really have to try to muck up most gear to the point it is junk.

I have bought and otherwise acquired some used reloading gear.
Only had to work on one peice of it and that was to fix a defect it had when it left the factory.

With the exception of a few dies just about all my equipment was aquired used.
Just a note of caution, if you shop ebay the things I use to watch on there would end up going for more than new.
Just be careful and know your prices.

+1 on that.Ebay would be the last place I'd look, this board and the cast boolit board get my nod.

"...Ebay would be the last place I'd look..." The people who own E-Bay don't think you should be allowed to own any firearm. Buying or selling there financially supports anti-firearm lobbyists like The Brady Bunch.
If you opt for used, and there's no reason not to, buy RCBS kit. Their warrantee is for the life of the kit, period. They will fix any issues you may have with a phone call, even if you buy used(or you caused the damage). The only question will be about your mailing address if you ever need parts. Including de-cappng pins.

I really don't care what eBay folks think, I do buy stuff there simply because it's there and, in the past, for a good price. BUT, the last couple of years has seen prices on dies triple and presses double, they are often more expensive than new stuff from mail order sources now so I don't buy much from them anymore.

Understand that eBay itself isn't the problem with those prices, its because some dummies are willing to pay more than new to buy used stuff! Actually, someday, I'm looking forward to selling some of my used gear there for more than I paid for it!

Do cast bullets foul up barrels that bad and are they as accurate as FMJ?

I shoot them out of my 45acp and have no accuracy issues when compared to the FMJs (hornady). Just clean the barrel after shooting like you normally would.

cast is all i shoot.could not afford to shoot jacketed.
Leading is a highly over inflated deal in most cases. You can occasionaly get some off brand or home-made bullets that lead badly, but a good brushing takes care of it for the most part.
these days 500 of my 225 grain pistol bullets cost about 60 to 65 bucks.
