Does anyone know why they quit making them? I've been thinking about trying one, but I'm kinda scared that they're no longer being produced. Maybe there were some issues, etc? Or, maybe they just didn't sell well enough for them to justify continued production.

I have a mag pug. Its the first and the last charter arms i will buy. for the extra C-note, sometimes less, you can get into a RUGER.

I bought a CA Target Patriot in 327 in 2009. I handload and have put over a thousand rounds of my loads and a couple hundred factory rounds thru it and about a thousand rounds of hot hand loaded 32 Magnum thru it. I like the gun, no problems except the screws loosen up. I like the gun and would probably buy another, I did buy a used Taurus 327B2 this summer. Another good one with the same loads.
Both CA and Taurus dropped 327; go figure.

I had one, and love it. Had no issues with it over a few thousand rounds of various .32 and several hundred rounds of .327 fed mag. It was a fun range toy until I gave it to my dad for home defense when he told me he traded his .38 Detective Special to my uncle for cash and a Raven .32 because he was having problems shooting .38 well in his old age... The ensuing conversation is a whole nother story.

Edit: I have a feeling CA and Taurus dropping the .327 was due to sales numbers, as every time I've seen someone wondering whether they should buy one, the SP101 gets mentioned first and most often as a good option to buy and try, since resale should be easier on the Ruger.

Thanks for the responses, guys.
One comment: I wouldn't mind "getting into a Ruger", BUT Charter is the only mfr. that has made the .327 in a 4" barrel so far.

MMCSRET, since you've handloaded for it, how has it been accuracy-wise for a 4"er - typical, better, worse? I'm envisioning the 4" .327 as a good woods loafing gun, and I want it to be accurate enough to bag a rabbit at 15-20 yards.

Ah..., yes they do, Chuck - thanks for pointing that out. Unfortunately, it weighs about as much as a chainsaw...:(

The weight and bulk of the BH and GP are what turns me away from them, good guns, good cartridge.
My CA Target Patriot loaded with my cast Lyman 311316 sized .313 and gas checked weighs 115 gr. I load over A#9 with a CCI 500 primer and it will do jack rabbits out to 150 yards if I do my part. It is accurate and you should have no problem when you start working with it. The front sight is integral with the stainless barrel and needs color. I use nail polish, it works and is easily changed or freshened with a quick trip to your local beauty saloon and the nail artiste. Or you can do it yourself.

I have a CA 4" Target Patriot. I have never had any problems with it. The only thing I would change about it is the finish. It will rust a little as it is just a SS type finish, not really stainless steel construction...

jayhawk,
Just curious, but I wonder if you could polish it up - that may help keep it from rusting a bit. Are you sure it's not truley SS?

I've had mine over two years and have witnessed no tendency towards oxidation of any kind, been wet a couple times but cleans up easily and looks good. I would think it would really look good fully polished, but I don't think I'll go to the trouble.

Get some "Renaissance Wax" and give it a light coat, will keep moisture from settling into the pores of the metal. Used world wide for metal preservation.

I called Charter Arms today and asked about the .327 Patriot.
The owner of CA answered the call and he was very informative and polite.
He told me point blank that they discontinued production because of business reasons only.
They are still producing the 32 Mag and it will shoot everthing except .327.
I may try it.
Do any of you shoot this gun?
Do you want to sell your gun?
I am in the market for one for my wife.

The 3" comped S&W 632 was recently sold at near closeout price (<$500) from a distributor who also had deals on the CA .327 Patriots - even including a knife. It didn't bode well for the round. Also, S&W had been promising the 632 Pro, a hammerless 2 1/8" .327, for over 1.5 years. But - it hit the shelves finally in September - and I got one. Quickly tried for the Patriot - all gone. My view is that it won't be around as long as the .32 H&RM was. Sad, too. Some years ago, a familiar mail order source for 'good prices' had hundreds of 3" .32 H&RM SP101's listed - then zero-ed. Several months later, Ruger introduced the then new '.327 Federal Magnum' in a 3" SP101. Hmmm, re-ream the chambers a bit deeper and restrike the caliber markings, voila, .327 Federal Magnum SP101. I really wonder if it was really thought through... or what I was thinking when I spent nearly $700 on that little one!!

I just got a 632. This weekend I get the brass and bullets. I'll lay in good supply, and I'll be set for a long time regardless of the future of the caliber and factory ammo. One of the many advantages of reloading to be sure.

Question 1.-What do you guys thick of the 32 H&R magnum round as a personal defence round?
Please do not copare it to larger rounds as know they are much better.
What I am interested in is your opinions about this round.
Question 2.-How do you guys think it compares to the 22 WMR as a personal defence round?
The reason I ask about this is because Hornady is touting their new 22WMR on the TV shows. I am woundering how you guys think it stacks up to the 32 mag?
The resons for the first two questions:
We are trying to find a small concealable revolver for my wife that she can be comfortable with.
She is recoil/noise/flash sensitive and we need a concealed carry gun for her.
She does not like my 38.
No simi autos any suggestions?
Thanks for your comments.

Personally, I'd rather have the .32 H&R over the .22 Mag. if I was going to carry it for personal defense. The .22 Mag. (a RIFLE round, mind you) is quite loud and flashy in a handgun....not much recoil, but it's a "spitting dragon" out of a handgun.

Big JJ: I was in almost the same boat with my wife. She has arthritis and can't handle heavy recoil. Doesn't like semi-autos. Answer: S&W Model 431 in .32 H&R Mag. She loves that gun and willingly goes to the range to practice. She urges everyone to try "her" gun.

.32 Mag beats .22 Mag in a pistol-length barrel.

I would think that CA just did not have enough of a demand to keep them in production. the round ,as good as it seems to be just did not catch on.
