That guy is a danger to public freedom, he ought to be driven out of office on a rail.

He ought to be fired by the citiznes with cause...for violating his oath to defend the constitution

This is the kind of jerk that gives a black eye to law enforcement. He is the extreme liberal exception rather than the norm. I've been an LEO since the 1970s in the rural South and just about all the officers I have worked with are Pro-2nd Amendment. You would be hard pressed on the local level to find officers who would enforce any law that is on its face unconstitutional.

Passing laws to infringe upon law abiding citizens will never be a solution to the problem. If more laws were the solution, it would be a non-issue. Murder is already illegal, along with theft of firearms, drug offenses...

Heck, a few of the founding fathers were even inventors. The very first machine gun was produced during the civil war - a mere 100 years AFTER the revolution...it was called the Gatling gun. They even had snipers in those time periods.

On another thread, I re-skimmed the PDFs of Heller '08 and MacDonald '10, downloaded and read a copy of Sanford Levinson's "The Embarassing Second Amendment"* Yale Law Journal 1989 and re-read my copy of Don B. Kate's Second Amendment article in Levy's Encyclopedia of the American Constitution. I even re-read a summary of criticism of the Carl T. Bogus conference that promoted the "collective rights only" interpretation of 2A.

The name of Police Chief Garry McCarthy of Chicago just doesn't show up among Constitutional scholars, even on his side of the issue.

*Embarrassing to Levinson because he admitted honest scholarship showed 2A is an individual right, and denying it would be dishonest scholarship.

Guys, we really need to start looking at these matters in a different light.

    Such as...

What REALLY concerns me is that a guy with this viewpoint, and 12,000 armed troops under his command, is a short 100 miles from my present location.

What a joke! The only danger to the public is himself and his moronic political agenda. As far as the musket thing goes I guess he and his police force would be breaking the law of not using smooth bore muskets themselves. Another reason to not visit the windy city. 2 cities I'd never be caught dead in NYC and gangster town Chicagio, unfortunately Denver is getting that way also.

I don't think he gives a black eye to LEO's in general. He certainly represents corrupt Chicago and NYC politics, however.

How people don't see this I'll never understand. Welcome to the age of the low information voter, I guess.

Yeah, I wouldn't quite compare him to Chris Dorner just yet...however, he's definately getting there with his radical viewpoints. I wonder how many people are dead due to gun control from people like this clown. Any numbers on that?

Trent, I don't live in IL - but I'm pretty sure most cops feel the same way about this issue across the board.

    1. Local cops don't enforce federal laws.

    2. Even if a liberal state passed these laws. You would find a very very small minority who would violate their oath to the Constitution and be a part of disarming American citizens. Hopefully, the courts would strike those laws down before it becomes an issue.

I am sure a decently trained American CITIZEN could show how effective a musket can really be, especially compared to the fat, corrupt Chicago PD leadership.

The rapid fire Puckle gun predates the Gatling by 150 years, and was well known to our framers when they drafted the Bill of Rights.

The Gatling was the first practical machine gun, but inventions like the Puckle gun and the Ferguson rifle blow the "2a meant muskets" argument out of the water.

Mc captain kangaroo Carthy is an idiot. For some strange reason, Chicago machine avoids hiring a professional and insists on only hiring buffoons. On second though, it's not strange it's consistent. Political views and corruption and power are more important than ability to the Chicago machine.

His attitude is not the prevalent one in Illinois law enforcement. The Illinois Sheriffs Association is the 9th state sheriffs association to come out against the current gun control agenda:

That thing looks like a "pucker" gun. Maybe through the years the translation was lost?

Oh I know, Jeff. He just happens to be the one with the state's second largest private army under his command.

I'm on good terms with my local Sheriff (Bob Huston, Tazewell County) - Bob is about as pro-gun as they get, and we see eye to eye on most every topic. He's testified down in Springfield before (twice, if I recall correctly), as a proponent of Shall Issue concealed carry.

The Police Chief and Obama--Both products of Chicago politics. What else do you need to know about this pair of idiots??

"Come on folks, everyone wants to be safer. Right? Well, all you're going to need to do is give up a few more inalienable rights and we promise you'll be safer."

You know what the safest place in the world is? Locked in a padded room, fed a "safe" diet, and under constant observation, and guarded by armed men. Maybe you can have TV and an assigned job to keep you busy. You can even have a spouse, but some people engage in unsafe sex play, so even the bedroom will have night vision cameras and you will not be allowed to engage in physical contact underneath the covers.

    It's all for your safety.

    Who desires that?
