Death by a thousand cuts? - Now Minnesota

Just sent emails to my senator and my MN representative voicing my displeasure. Debating whether or not to write Gov. Dayton. And maybe the members of the house idiot committee (Public Safety.)

I've already made a pest of myself to Senators Franken and Klobuchar and to Tim Walz regarding the Feinstein bill and anything like it that might come along.

They are having hearings on new laws next week. No announcement on when they will be voting. GOCRA-MN is the best resource we have in this issue. Here is the latest e-mail they sent out.

We need you to come to the capitol at least one of three days next week. It's important.

Today, members of the Minnesota House introduced a stunning array of bills to strip you of your firearm rights, your due process rights and other freedoms. We'll be detailing these bills on our web site and on Facebook in the next day.

Next week, the Minnesota House will hold three days of hearings on these bills. All the politicians, the legislators, the governor and the media will be watching.

Gun owners need to be at the hearings in overwhelming numbers.

(Yes, this will involve taking time off of work for many, and we wouldn't ask if it were not so important. It is that important.)

Can you attend one or more of the hearings?

The hearings are at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday; you'll need to be there by 8:30. Gun rights activists will meet in room 400S of the State Office Building.

We'll have buttons and t-shirts to help identify you as one of the good guys and gals (please bring $1 for buttons or $10 for t-shirts to offset our costs).

There are also two evening hearings, on Tuesday and Thursday, starting at 6 p.m. Plan to be there by 4:30 p.m. to get a seat.

If you can come to one or more of the five hearings, please let us know by sending an email to [email protected]. If you are flexible about which day or days, tell us that, too, so we can be sure to fill the seats for all five sessions.

If you, or someone you know, can testify against gun control, please tell us that, too, and we can help get you to the right people to get on the list.

Whether you can come or not, please call your senator and representative, urge them to reject any gun control measures. Then, call each member of the committee and tell them the same thing:

What about that rally?
Yes, there's a rally loosely organized for Friday.

We already demonstrated, on January 19, that we can turn out, literally, 100 times as many supporters as the gun banners. As fun as it is to gather and protest, now it's time to get down to work. We exert real power when we get in front of legislators -- attending the hearings, and then seeing your senator and representative afterwards, in person.

The Bad Bills
We'll have some analysis soon, but you don't need to be a lawyer to see the problems for the law-abiding gun owner.

Doesn't the history of Minnesota mainly encompas the many, many people who immigrated there over the years from the Scandanavia countries where socialism reigned?

Scandinavian socialism post-dates Scandinavian immigration to the US. Most of the Scandinavians who wound up in the US came here for the same general reason other European populations came here -- carving a life out of the frontier was preferable to starvation, negligible economic prospects even if you weren't starving, and dealing with other forms of repression back home.

I suspect that the Populist/socialist leanings in that part of the US today have more to do with the Dust Bowl not decimating the adherents to that line of political reasoning in Minnesota, Michigan, etc., the way it did further south. (There may even be some argument that the influx of destitute farmers from the southern Great Plains into California helped create the Workers Paradise that now prevails there, but maybe that's stretching things . . .)

Sigh....

probably about that time to send another series of emails to my reps...

I do worry about smaller initiatives on the part of states, cities, or even towns.

On the other hand, Texas has about 11 pro-gun bills in committee and no anti-gun bills. And, you don't need a snow shovel here either.

If this crap passes, I won't be able to drive through MN to get to the UP of MI any longer. I can't drive through IL because I would be considered a felon by the guns I carry with me.........chris3

I don't live in Minnesota, thank goodness from a gun perspective, but I have a feeling we are all going to end up in Texas someday. It may prove to be our Alamo. :(
