Dick Cavett has been writing a series of OP-ED's about guns. He is taking a very condescending and superior tack in these articles. While simultaneously parroting long-debunked arguments, numbers, and positions. I highly recommend logging on and informing him of his errors.

Here is one of my many replies to his OP-ED

    Dick who ?

Of all the hollyweirdo's he is the last one to even read his poop in print.

He was a has been over 3 DECADES so why bother as to his 'opinion'.

But you did a great job of noting his mental problems and mentioning them.

His fixations are very disturbing and we should all be very happy that he dislikes guns,he might "sleep with one" and that paints a very disturbing picture.

Good answer to a mental case though !!

    He's still alive?

Really, I thought he was dead, such is his irrelevance.

As far as "...very condescending and superior..." that was always his stance before the camera. Years ago I remember thinking that old DC tapes must be like "preaching from on high" to Jon Stewart as their styles were so similar I could see him watching and re-watching them over & over as a true believer.

As far as his (DC's) tired old attempt to marginalize firearms ownership as a form of sexual compensation (physical or emotional) and thereby embarrassing folk at least into silence rather than defending themselves... that's just the saddest, oldest and most sophomoric (sophomoronic?) of academic fact-fleeing arguments.

Everything those goatied, leather-elbow-patch-wearing, smug, self righteous, elitist snobs don't understand, appreciate or down right loath goes back to sex on the part of those whom they attack for an activity or ownership.

"What's he making up for?" Is their lame old mantra to end an argument.

Maybe his next epic interview with a has-been can be a love fest with Sly(me)-Stallone.

As long as Johnny Carson doesn't come out against it. But really, who listens to Dick Cavet. We can't fight these folks 1 at a time. they have connectons to get air time, we don't, you should appeal to whoever gave him the spot and ask for equal time if anything.

Given Cavett's self-declared history of mental problems, I am surprised the NYT would publish his articles on guns.

I went and commented on the article with some fact-based logic and how fruitless demonizing people who disagree is; even tried to show how logical, thoughtful debate has led to a plausible system of laws that has worked here for a couple of hundred years. As expected, attacked right away with emotional, non factual diatribes.

There has been no logical progression of their position, just the same all-or-none crap over the last 20 years. Seems that we're winning this debate - pretty sad when the Old Grey Lady parades Cavett out to opine on the matter.

I legitimately have no idea who that is, and if I did I doubt his opinion would matter to me. BTW whoever he is he is nuts, he has a NAZI fetish. Sick.

Dick Cavat was a well spoken politically engineered comic/host, he did interviews and had a talk show like the tonight show, in the 60's. Maybe into the early 70's. At the time he was an elitest hippie who was a Buckley type. For 10 -20 years he was a pretty impressive guy, interviewing just about everyone and looking like a Harvard Law professor, with the tweed jackets and cordory pants and loafers.
He was a well respected host for a while there, but faded out in the 80's kind of like that other guy withe the political stand up bit who had his own show for years. "can't think of his name". He just is not relavent, and probablly suffers from dimensia by now. They are puling all of the old conservatives out of the closet. he was a comic, actor comedian and had the Dick cavet show, which like I mentioned was like the jack par and johnny Carson show.

I hope you're kidding. But, if not, Jack Paar is the father of late-night television. He was Johnny Carson's immediate predecessor.

Come on. Everybody can't be old like us. Hell, our species would die out.

Remember, Johnny Carson is already dead. And Jack Parr was his predecessor.
