Dictionary.com compiles its definitions from various actual dictionary sources. In the case of the gun owner-****** connection, it was taken from American Heritage, 4th ed.

Okaaaay.

I guess that begs the questions...why did these two sources, D.com in particular see fit to put it as definition #2?

Still puzzled.

It's a pro-gun statement.

Still puzzled.
It's a pro-gun statement and it seems that we've got one of our own over at dictionary.com. I've heard this statement numerous times before (though I was unware it is in dictionary.com), and it's always been said by pro-gun people.

Translation: "The prejudice against gun owners is overt, systematic and publicly acceptable the way that prejudice against blacks once was overt, systematic and publicly acceptable. Those who are prejudiced against gun owners see themselves as superior beings. They fear and loath gun owners and work to destroy their rights by any means at their disposal."

The statement equates gun control with Jim Crow and other racist laws.
