very interesting thread.

checking it out kinda gives me an ideA of what my bushy would do against targets like that that ive never had a chance to shoot.

will keep checking this one.

ps. i wouldnt use the wolf either, but then again, i handload everything i shoot.

thanks folks!

Ill do a lil more testing this weekend, and report with pics etc.

any requests or ideas, please let me know, Ill do the best I can, if possible, to follow thru!

ip.

No requests but I have a friend looking at one of these so if you could would you give a more detailed description of the fit & finish and what you like, dont like, think could have been done better. If you could describe how it ran on wolf and silver bear or any other cheap ammo

Thanks Tacweapon

Stay Safe this weekend

no problem tac.

Ill post up a few more details and macro pics in a cpl hrs, when my kids go to sleep.

the wolf .223 was quite inexpensive, I did like that fact about it.. and I may just consider grabbing a nother box or two tomorrow to give it a fair second chance..
I really havent noticed any difference in recoil between it, or other brands, Im used to shooting things that punch a bit more, so this gun just really dosent have much of a measurable recoil imo... I dont think Ive shot at long enuff ranges to judge it agains other brands for accuracy either.. but I am going to try and zero the red dot to 100yds tomorrow from a rest, so Ill do my best to provide a comparison.
the only thing I really can say is that the only malfunction Ive had so far was one time, with wolf ammo, and it was a failure to feed.. (and the one hollow point packed in a box of FMJ)..

Ill try and provide a lil more this weekend.

thanks, ip.

Did you have any problems with the wolf short stroking? I'm looking at getting a DPMS rifle but Wolf doesn't function properly in my current Bushmaster Rifle. How was the accuracy of it?

There was a flyer that came with my Sportical that recommended not using Russian lacquer coated ammo, i.e. Wolf, Silver Bear.

I really like my Sportical.....good quality with a nice fit and finish. My only complaint was the heavy trigger pull but a RRA NM FCG fixed that.

Silver Bear is not lacquer coated. Wolf used to be but is no longer.

I just don't understand why they don't put a friggin' dust cover on the upper. I mean, really... how much more expensive could that possibly make the rifle?

Hi all!
sorry for the lack of updates recently, been workin alot, and not 'playing' much.

even if its super cold this weekend here in MN, and it is! Im still going to get out and do a little more testing.

got a box of Ultramax .223 55gr SoftPoint ammo. Im gonna see how it does against the Steel. I was thinking about using it on the car, but Im not too concerned with those results as I would easily prefer FMJ on any Hard target..

But Ill test it on the steel for pennetration.

Im also thinking about putting it thru a gallon of vater wrapped with Denim, and place a piece of Sheetrock about 2 feet behind it, then 1/2 inch plywooed behind that..
merely for a "non scientific" look at what it will do to a wall after pennetrating a "soft target"..

Pretty shure we all know it will go thru everything. but ya never know with soft points, sometimes they explode, sometimes they hold together all too well.

any other ideas or requests, lemme know and Ill do my best.

thanks, ip.

I don't know how much you paid for your DPMS Sportical but I shelled out $680.00 for mine. I think it is alot of gun for the money and alot can be done with it. No frills and bare bones.

U.S.SFC, I paid a lil over $800, but that was after an extra mag (bushnell), a Red Dot scope (30mm tru-glo) and a few boxes of ammo, oh, and a different sling.

you got a better deal, but Im still happy I paid what I did, Id do it again, mabey even pay a lil more.

yer dam right, its a GREAT gun for the money, and I really look foreward to putting a few accessories on it,. over time tho..

ip.

I was extremely dissapointed.... How the HELL do you pack a HP into a box of FMJ.... or if it was a mfg defect, thats even worse

Interesting, whenever I shoot a large number of Wolf rounds at the same point of aim, I get a large group that looks like decent groups from two or three different brands of ammo -- multi-modal dispersion in statistics terms.

If they merge multiple production line outputs in the packaging step could explain both our observations.

Wolf is cheap, works fine in all my guns as long as the chambers are clean and free of oil, and is more than minute of 2-liter soda bottle accurate so it meets my needs. I'd rather shoot more cheap ammo at reasonably large targets vs. less expensive ammo at smaller targets.

will do, if youll fund the ammo! lol

like Ive said before, Im not a wannabe commando. nore would I ever have to shoot that much to hit any/multiple targets..
I dont see the need for that kind of test.. but if you would fund it, I WILL do it.. fair?!
I have emptied 2 30rd mags as fast as I could, with no failures.. XM193.. but I would never have to do that either...

I go for a more realistic approach of things Tim.
I aim and shoot, or point shoot if Id need to.. Im not the spray and pray kinda guy.

thanks for recommending a test tho!

Tim, I love how you are so quick to bust people's chops on their choice of AR, when it sems that you have very litle experience yourself.

But, on another post, it seems like you are the end-all, be-all of the Colt AR series. Here's a (baseless) trolling, elitist comment:
Buy a Colt. Most other ARs
are cr@p.

and another:
Here we go again. Owners of subpar AR15s defending their pieces of cr@p, also-known-as Bushmaster, DPMS, RRA and Olympic.

and another:
Instead of talking up your asses, run 10 of your Bushmasters against 10 Colts on a 3k carbine course and see what the failure rates of each are. I can't believe how ignorant some people are.

and another:
Then I truly hope you have a Colt in your car as backup when, not if, the Bushmaster fails.

What, may I ask, is the level of your experience with the AR family of rifles? Oh, and don't go trotting out that tired "chart" again... it's outdated anyways.

Troll.

hank, I am fully aware of Tims entire reasoning for posting in my thread.. that is why I offerd to take this armchair commando up on his test if he would pay for the ammo...... oh, and the Mags, cause I only have 3 ;)

lets not bring the troll hunt in here please. this thread is ment to actually be educational.

thanks Hank.

Innerpiece- I bought a Sportical a few months ago and so far I've been satisfied with it. I've only run maybe 400 rds through it (with maybe 80 of them being wolf) but I haven't had one malfunction yet. Heres a pic of mine. The only things I've done to it is Ive added a Hogue grip, a Bushmaster Y-comp and I color filled the receiver markings.

I've only got a cheapo scope on it right now but it shows potential in the accuracy department. It would probably do better if I had a better trigger and scope but I'm not too worried at the moment. The only things Ive shot at worth mentioning is some 3/8" steel plate I picked up from work. At 50 yds it zipped right throught it. I think we got a good rifle for our money. Not everybody purchases an AR for shtf or some carbine course so we dont all need a 1300 dollar rifle, it just seems some people dont understand that.

hey chris!
actually, I remeber a thread you had, discussing how you did the filling in the stamps with paint. real good job on that btw!

thanks for stoppin thru the thread, really hope ya come back!

would be cool to see some pics of that 3/8 steel!

PM me with your contact info, and I will send you some ammo, say 500 rds for the test. Mags you will have to come up with yourself. You really should have more than 3 mags. Let me know if you're interested.

BTW: I expect pictures and a detailed report if you decide to go through with this. Thanks.

Here's that pic you were wanting. My camera is starting to crap out on me so these were the best I could get. The first one's the entrance and the second one's the exit. The hole measures at around .360".

I have a few other pieces of steel Ive shot and if I can get good pics of them I'll send them to you in a pm.

Tim, while I appreciate that you claim to be willing to donate 500 rds of ammo for a test I AM willing to do.... Im not interested in buying 17 30rd mags just to please yer "nonsence" test.. that would out me about...... hmm.. lets say: $340 dollars!
I think not buddy! I dont need that many mags. nor do I need to conduct such a retarted and unrealistic test for you, especially if yer not <Grammaw cleaned up.>

<More Grammaw work.>

chris, right on!
what ammo were you using? Ive been trying to find some poly tip .223 around here, but being rural, thats kinda difficult.. Ill be trying the Ultramax .223 SoftPoint 55gr tomorrow on steel... interested in what it does.
thanks fer commin thru!
