here in nc i have heard different things on whether or not you are required to tell and officer you have a gun int he car

are you required to tell the officer with any gun concealed or otherwise?

the reason i am asking is last night i was driving home from a bonfire i had my my farm, i always carry a gun out there since we have had a rabid fox die and i shot another one last night that was acting agressive and foaming at the mouth, but i went through 3 check points (kinda ironic i was just thinking a few dasy ago how i hadnt been through one in 2 years) but the first one i didnt think about the rifle in the back seat of my truck he didnt notice but the next two i told the officer right away that i did to avoid andy problems.

are there different rules on it for long guns and hand guns? what if they are concealed? btw im 18 so i dont conceal but its just something id liek to know

what about if the gun isnt concealed?

my truck has tinted back windows (factory) and i normally just set my guns on the back seat?

just a point on protocol:

ALWAYS inform the officer if you are carrying! they will most often disarm you and then proceed. but it is always appreciated on their end. i know some of my guys have let people out of tickets simply because they divulged and liked the weapon they had.

Just a point of protocol

Never inform the officer that you are carrying ( unless you are legally required to do so).

It will just make the stop take that much longer and may expose you to harassment by an anti cop. Or endanger you due to the officer's inept gun handling.

Absolutely. Don't go out of your way to give up information you don't have to. If you give up one piece of info you aren't required to, THEY WILL KEEP ASKING YOU FOR MORE
exactly, I knew after reading the post that Treo would post in here, I pretty much always agree with him.

That doesn't just go for guns either. I never divulge more information than asked for in a traffic stop.
ie.
Officer: Do you know why I pulled you over?
Me: no response
Officer: Do you know what the speed limit is?
Me: Yes
Officer: Do you know how fast you were going?
Me: Yes

if you say you don't know they can get you for negligent driving.

You are so, so close grasshopper but not quite there :scrutiny:

Officer walks up to your car and before he even opens his mouth you say,

Me: What seems to be the problem Officer? Why did you pull me over?
And the “gotcha” game just ended before it ever started.

Officer: Do you know what the speed limit is?
Me: How can I help officer?
Officer: Do you know how fast you were going?
Me: Officer, please tell me what I need to do to be on my way.

If you don’t say anything they can’t get you period.

When you can snatch the donut from my hand, Grasshopper, it will be time for you to leave here.:D

I'm not sure if you have to inform in NC or not, but I do know that if you write "under duress" on anything at any point in your arrest, your handcuffs will magically fall off.

Take that to the bank.
