Harry Reid is running for re-election and maybe he looses - he is currenty Senate Majority Leader- then someone needs to take over. This assumes of course that the Dems keep the Senate which is likely -SO... if that happens; it would appear that Chuck Schumer will take over.

Harry has been fairly pro-gun; failing that he has been at least moderate on guns. Chuck is a kool-aid drinking anti-gunner. There is a significant possibility that Chuck Schumer will be the SML. SML has a great deal of power - but how much?

So I guess the question is this - how much will that effect gun rights in this country? And how will that change how we fight for them? Or am I chasing a red herring.

*admins - I wasn't sure if this fell in Legal or Activism. If this should be the incorrect forum please move it instead of closing the discussion.

Schumer is one of the True Believers...and historically has been willing to push even the most asinine bans regardless of the cost to his party.

He would assign committee chairmanships. He would control the budget of the Senate. He would control what bills make it to the Senate floor.

Let's make sure that doesn't happen by voting the Republicans into control of the Senate (and House).

Keep in mind that if Schumer doesn't get it Durbin does. I hope the Republicans sweep the Senate or at least split it 50/50.

The Dems achieved power by taking guns off the table for discussion. They managed to get several pro gun Democrats elected. It would be suicidal to alienate yet another constituency. Schumer himself said the strategy in '06 was to take guns and reproductive rights off the table.

Chucky is all about Chucky---nothing else

Whatever cause-du-jour that gets him face time on camera is what he'll be for---guns are a dead issue.

The thought of this moron as a magority leader for anything is chilling. It would be my prayer that he as a leader would be the first to jump off the Brooklyn Bridge and be followed by the rest of his "hate America" party.

Since the SML is elected by his party's Senators it doesn't mean Chucky automatically becomes leader. He is kind of annoying, with really sharp TV camera elbows, I think there is enough dislike of him that it may be a tough reach.

Six of one, half a dozen of the other, all the same in the present "idiot pool" of politicians doing us a big favor by more firearm controls. Next we will have restrictions on pocket knives like England if some idiot in congress cuts his pinky finger with a deadly beer tab.

I live in So. NV and Harry Reid is a tax and spend liberal... but he did bring us a Shooting Park, complete with photo op and everything... ;)

For all his faults, I'd rather have soft spoken deal makin' Harry than Chaz driving the Senate bus. Tho I will say, I've always loved that photo of smilin' Chuck doing his thing w/ that Intratec or Linda or whatever POS it was he was shooting that day. Anyone remember that photo?

I can't imagine many Senators nowadays getting a shooting park built in their home turf... which is sad. Or not. Earmark/pork comes in many flavors and can weaken your will to resist.

Guess it's pretty much settled now -- we don't do purely political threads -- and this isn't an Activism discussion anyway (Where's the PLAN?).
