Favoite .30 Carbine Recipes?

About a hear ago I bought a Ruger Blackhawk and a reproduction M1 Carbine, both chambered in 30 Carbine. I just recently got reloading dies for this caliber, so I have been tinkering with a few different loads for both guns.

So far the best loads I've come up with are using a 100gr Soft Point.

6.0gr Alliant Blue Dot Small game/Plinker
14.0gr VihtaVouri N110 Personal Defense

There must be a few others here who reload for 30 Carbine. What are your favorite loads?

I came across this forum when searching for reloading information, so here's my first post. I only know a couple people who reload, so I'm looking forward to using this forum to talk to more people who reload.

I mostly load lead bullets that I cast. With them, I use 12.5gr of 2400. With 110gr jacketed bullets, I use 15.0gr of 4227.

This is a timely post.
I only use cast bullets anymore for such low velocity rounds because good jacketed bullets are getting too high to use a lot of.
I was going to use 2400, but I might try IMR4227 too.
Budgets just been too tight lately to get going, but I'm hoping by November maybe I can get resupplied to reload some.
All for a 7 1/2" Blackhawk.

I don't remember; it's been a while since I loaded any .30 for my Blackhawk, but I *think* the load was 7.5 grains of Herco with a 100 or 110 grain cast lead bullet. It might have been 8 grains but I don't think so. AA#7 is also a good powder. Blue Dot didn't work so well for me; case head separations with midrange loads.

You know you have to trim .30 Carbine cases, right? You resize them first, then trim them, because they can actually get shorter when you shoot and then stretch way out when resized. Sometimes your trimmer won't take anything off and sometimes it will take deep cuts. .30 Carbine is just weird like that; I think because it is such a long skinny tapered case.

ETA: Checked my notes. 8.0 grains of Herco with a 115 grain cast bullet (Magnus #203) is a very hot load. 7.5 was more reasonable.

I load my own cast Lee 100 gr. flat base 2R bullets #90301 with 12 1/2 gr. pushing it. Very accurate and no leading using my own lube.

I use 12.5 gr of H110 with a 110 grsn Speer for a Iver Johnson carbine because the gun is a POS & I don't trust it.
For the Ruger 30 car pistol I use 110grsn Speer with 14 gr of H110--fired indoors it is a ball.

I am using either .7cc of Blue Dot or the max load of Trail Boss as calculated by the IMR recipe for this with 110 grain lead RN bullets. Soft recoil and fun to shoot. Either MB or Lasercast bullets, both work about the same but MB are far less expensive.

I used to buy Lasercast locally, but they've tripled in price.

As far as Missouri Bullet goes Brad probably already has your order sitting on the loading dock waiting for your OK to buy it! I swear he knows when we are about to order and pre-packs it. If every company used his business plan we would never be able to complain about anything ever again.

Maybe it's me, but I can't tell from the posts in this thread whether any of you are loading lead bullets to shoot from the M1 carbine, as opposed to the Blackhawk. Would be interested to know people's experiences with shooting the rifle loads. Or for that matter, using plated bullets (Berry's has a 30 carbine offering as well).

Off the top of my head I can only recall seeing load data for a 115 grain LRN (in the Lyman 49th edition manual).

Already saving quite a bit on 30 carbine reloads vs. factory ammo, even using FMJs. But saving even more by moving to lead or plated would be something I'd explore.

Berry's plated bullets are wonderful in .30 Carbine. I don't use them cuz I don't shoot the .30 much, and Cabela's doesn't sell that particular bullet so I can't just buy one box. But I did order one box of 'em along with other stuff I ordered direct from Berry's a long time ago and I loved them.

I think the OP was going to reload for both handgun and carbine.
Even though Lyman's is the main source for cast bullet loads, there are other one around.
There's a whole group dedicated to shooting them and even a few forums on the subject.
One thing I ran across was handgun velocities were recommended to be kept under a 1000FPS MV.
I shot a lot of factory loads through my Blackhawk, but besides the incredible muzzle blast, it was like throwing money in the wind.
I think toned down loads with cast bullets will be a lot cheaper and more fun to shoot.

I'm running h110 and a 120 grn lead bullet in my carbine, around 1400 fps. I get a little leading, but nothing I can't clean. I only resize the cases about half length. It's much easier to do and still works. Cuts down on how much trimming I have to do as well.

Regarding my post #5 the load is for the M1 Carbine, I have had no problem to date with the gas system. This is after 1,000's of cast lead bullets thru it.

I am loading for the M1 Carbine, and like jcwit, I have had no problems to date with lead bullet loads.

I also use a 120 grain round nose cast boolit from a group buy over on cast boolits. Used two powders, IMR 4227 and w296. Brass trimmed to 1.280 and over all length at 1.675.

For working up an accuracy load:

IMR 4227 - 11.4 grains to 13.2 grains

W296 - 11.1 grains to 13.5 grains

This was in a Lee Pro Auto Disk, both powders flowed very smoothly through it. It was tough to tell what powder load was the best, because all of them were extremely accurate through my like new barrel. (I had built the rifle from a parts kit and a receiver.)

I've loaded 30 Carbine since early 60's, for both M1 Carbine and Ruger 30 Carbine pistols. For the rifle, my favorite load is 2400 powder and Hornady 100 gr half-jacket bullets. These have been discontinued but I still have a good supply. Alternatively, I have used Remington bulk 110 JSP bullets with H110 powder. For the pistol, rifle loads will do 1600 fps but are inefficient. I like lighter loads with cast bullets of 95-120 gr with Herco, AA5, WST which are usually very accurate. The pistol is going to have muzzle blast. Case trimming is going to be necessary and make sure the trimmed case will fully chamber in your pistol before you load up many.
