Has anyone else found it hard to find cast bullets these days. I contacted the place I have been getting my bullets for a few years now and he told me he was having trouble getting the raw materials to cast. (I know the prices are going through the roof.) He also told me that he knows of 3 places that shut down 2 for good and 1 untill they can get materials. I guess I will have to get into casting my own soon. :banghead:
 
I get my lead rounds from Chey-Cast Bullets, but they are distributed in my area and they are cheap. You might check their prices online to see if it would be worth an order.
My dad always tried to come across incomplete lots of bullets at sales or on GunBroker, but eventually just started buying supplies on ebay and GunBroker to cast his own. He went to a local tire shop and they let him have two 5gal buckets full of tire weights for nothing, and that has produced years worth of lead to cast bullets with. We also hunt with blackpowder rifles, so making 400gr bullets goes through that lead a little quicker than casting .357, but it is all worth it. FYI
 
Masterblasters and Bear Creek both shut down due to high lead prices. Cheap places are using whatever scrap they can get their hands on and the price of that is even up.
 
I don't like to use so called cheap bullets I use Penn Bullets for my bullseye shooting they are the best I ever shot. I have heard guys say the bullet does not matter that much than they never shot match grade lead. Penn Bullets told me the same thing about the price lead was going through the roof.
 
Lead oxide is the biggest problem with cast bullets The presence of lead oxide in a bullet is one of the major causes of flyers because each bullet will have a different resistance as it flies down the barrel.

some companies address this issue and you pay a little more for the increase in accuracy, while others just crank out cheap bullets that will be not as accurate.
 
Placed an order from Missouri Bullet COmpany (www.missouribullet.com) a few weeks ago. Not only are his prices good for .38s and .357s (about $22/500), he will pack up to 2000 bullets in the one-price US Mail box (about another $10). His bullets are BHN scaled, so his lead .357 loads are harder and can handle the higher pressure & velocity of 1200-1300 fps with no gas checks.

Good, clean, well-lubed bullets.

He also sends "trial packs" of 100 bullets for something like $5, just to try out. I had some questions about some 185gr SWCs for my 1911, so he tossed in a sample box for me to try out.

Fast service, excellent communication, pleasant in answering my many noob questions. Can't recommend Brad enough!!!

The Lazercast "SIlver bullet" from Oregon trail is an Excellent bullet and still very competetively priced as materials have become scarce and expensive! You can find them on Dillon Precision website. or direct from Laser-cast.com with shipping included in prices.
