Were your purposes for buying the gun the same that the OP is for buying his? If not then that post is fairly irrelevant, especially since you didn't even mention whether you would recommend it or not.

I would go with the 17 and build it up to your preference from there.
If you chose to do the work yourself, you get the exact gun you want and make it yours.

You are very close to Bud's price on a new one. Gen3 is $595, Gen4 is $635....

After bidding on some used 17's and 34's with no luck. I order a new GEN3 34 from the shop today probably won't see it until next week. I excited.

I voted for the G34, then replied without reading any of the other replies. I bought my G22 (full size) in 1999, then my G27 (sub compact) in 2002, both 40 S&W. I shot and carried both of them a lot. I got a Long Wolf Distributor 9mm conversion barrel for my G22 as well and a factory G31 (357 Sig) barrel for it. I liked the 9mm barrel so much that I bought my G34. It's the most accurate pistol I've ever had. And I like the 9mm so much that I traded my G27 for my G26 (sub compact 9mm). A G19 (compact 9mm) is going to be my next handgun. All my current Glock's are Gen 3 models as all my new ones will be.

Update, bought the 34 and enjoying enjoying it. Also in the process of getting a Gen2 22 that I am converting to 9mm. The 22 isn't going to get a ton if work done to it.
