As everyone here has already said .... WHAT A FANTASTIC COLLECTION!! :D What's the difference between a Python Elite and a Python. I have a 4" stainless Python that I won't ever part with.

:)

The Python Elite was made by the Colt Custom shop, on a per order basis, after the Python production was discontinued.

What's the difference between a Python Elite and a Python.

About a 5 letter differnece in the Die that stamps them.

FYI: The Elite is no better than the Pythons before them.
It tends to be that people see the Elite name and think they are buying a better revolver than just a Python. This is untrue. They are equals.

All beautiful guns. A 6" Python is on my list of guns to get soon. I had a stainless 4" Anaconda for years but was forced to sell it off during some hard times ... I still cry at night. :(

My top three gotta have guns are all Colts:
6" Python (blue or stainless, I ain't picky! ;))
Mint Detective Special
Stainless Delta Elite

Problem is, the only time I come across one is when I don't have the cash to buy it.

Actually, I like the oldest Pythons the best from the 50's and 60's.

The Elites are valued higher than most of the standard Pythons due to the rarity of them, but its the same gun.

Rarity ??? Python Elite ? I don't think so. Made for years.
Many thousands made does not equate to rare.
It's lack of knowledge that drove those prices up on the Elites.
Colt even dropped the 2.5 inch and 8 inch guns so there even less of a variety to choose from when they went to the Elite. Blue or stainless, 4 or 6 inch tube was the choice.
Not rare in any sense of the word.

Jeff (GUNKWAZY)

Huh?

Rare is relative.

There is a lot less around than most of the standard Pythons, that number in the hundreds of thousands, and they're much harder to come by.

I didn't say they were better, they are more rare. The 3" Pythons sell for more, due to even more rarity.

There were 55,000 Union Switch and Signal 1911A1s built, yet they sell for at least double what the Remington Rand 1911A1 sells for on average. They are identical, yet there were many more Remington Rands built.

Rare is relative.

ha ha ha .... You must have met my relatives...
Anyway. When it comes to Pythons, I'm sure you are very knowledgeable.
Buy all the Elites you would like. Cuz they are rare for sure.

Thanks for the fun, I'm outta here before we compare Chevys & Fords.

Good luck to you sir.

Jeff (GUNKWAZY)

Uh...is there a problem?

For the record, I have five Pythons and one Python Elite. I don't plan on buying another Elite.

I stated the facts. I didn't say the Elite was better, because it isn't. In fact, I like the old Pythons from the 50's and 60's the best.

I won't even use the word "rare". The simple fact is that there were many times the number of standard Pythons built compared to the Elites. Just like there were even less 3" barreled Pythons.

Here's another analogy...

Do you consider the Bren Ten a well built pistol? They had all sorts of problems. Yet, they sell for a fortune today. Its hard to find a good one under $3K. Value equals what a person is willing to pay. The Elites are not better revolvers, but they are more valuable. Again, not better, but more valuable. The 3" Combat Python isn't better either, yet its much more valuable.

I didn't think that was difficult to understand.

Rarity most certainly *IS* relative, gunkwazy. Clearly, you are making no sense. And bac-123 IS making sense. Mausers are NOT RARE (relatively). Pythons are RARE (relatively). Python Elites are RARER STILL (relatively).

Either way you slice it, Elite or no, a snakes a snake and that's a damned fine thing to have.

Beautiful collection OP, especially that 4" blued one. You're a lucky dog.

Too rich for my blood, though. Someday...

Wow that is a work of art. I couldn't wait more than 15 minutes after buying that to put some rounds through her. Firearms were meant to be fired.
