Hunted black powder season near Taylor Lake, east of Gunnison in 2000 and again in 2001. Beautiful country!

Better start working out, there isn't much air up there. :)
Best of luck on your hunt, where will you be hunting?

hps

Thumbtack, mind telling me how you gained this information?
Every number or link that I've tried to DOW is notr operational.....which is not suprising!

This just in from the database page.....

LIMITED LICENSE FOR 2ND CHOICE: EE075O1R

WoooooHooooooooo!

(translation - either sex elk permit for the first special rifle season in units 75,751,77,771, and 78 - i.e. a big ole chunk of SW Colorado)

Ever since the DOW put the special first season in it has been the most successful elk hunt.

Hey Art - It's even WARM then!!! Probably only put a half inch skim of ice on the water bucket in the morning.

JohnDog - Is it October yet??

PS - Dan, it can take your CC number or Name/DOB/Zip

First year, I was unsuccessful so had one preference point next year and got a bull tag. The second year, Colorado jumped the price on their out of state license pretty drastically and many tags went begging as I understand it. I had a cow hunt lined up and heard that there were going to be a surplus of cow tags due to the high cost of the tags, so called DOW and they verified the fact, so I put down preference point as first choice and cow tag for second choice and wound up with both.:D

Didn't get a shot either year but had a great time and still have my preference point if I am ever able to make another hunt.

I have stopped hunting big game other than with black powder. On last seasons regular rifle elk hunt, I too my Lyman GPR, and I will hunt with that again this year (I got drawn for cow elk at Pinon Canyon). I need to start building up my preference points for the bp hunts.

I found DOW very helpful, in fact when I called to ask about making preference point the first choice, the gentleman I needed to speak to was not in. They took my number and he returned my call about 15 minutes later. I told him I had heard that the cow tags were in plentiful supply in the area I planned to hunt (east of Gunnison) and asked him if I took 1st choice pref. pt. and 2nd choice cow tag what he thought my chances would be. He said that is what he would do in my situation. Sure enough it worked out.

You might want to check this out next year. Good hunting!

hps
