Here's a link to an announcement for a lecture presentation on "gun violence" by a U of Chicago professor, scheduled for 19 October in St. Louis. Those in the area, and interested in representing gun RIGHTS, might wish to attend to learn how Heller, and other decisions, are viewed, and what actions toward reducing their impact may be contemplated. I'm too far away to attend....but would like someone to report on the lecture if possible.....

If he gets going on "assault weapons," I hope someone is there to point out the following:

According to the FBI, were 463 murders in Illinois in 2007. All rifles COMBINED accounted for 4 of them. By comparison, 53 were murdered with knives, and 10 were murdered with bare hands and shoes.

Hi I did a quick search for the fellow giving the talk, Jens Ludwig, and came up with a book on Google Books. Check out the summary:

Sounds like the guy's work is rather academic. Unfortunately, he may be an academic who came to a conclusion before he did the research. Hard to tell from the book's summary.

Hmm.... sounds interesting. Too bad I'll be out of town.

Folks have to get out a bit more: Jens Ludwig
With "Guns in America", Cook and Ludwig did a parallel study to Kleck, got much the same result, and tried to wish it away.
