Always used Lubri-Plate for sliding surfaces, and just starting to use Dexron ATF for rotating surfaces trigger pins and the like, plus for rust protection.

ehhh i don't spray wd-40 on any firearm at anytime its made from animal fat or something like that

I've heard a lot of funny info out there about Wd-40, but that one really takes the cake.

Formula (Disclaimer- I did not fact-check wiki.)

Mobil 1, Tetra grease or Shooter's Choice grease, Rem Oil for trigger parts and to clean/protect blued guns, and Boeshield T-9 for anything that's going to be out in wet weather.

Slip 2000 for an oil, Tetra grease, Johnson's Paste Wax for rust proofing. As I sit here, I can see Corrosion X, EZOX, Sheath, Rem Oil, Moly Slide, Tetra Oil and Marine PAL. :)

I'm not as worried about which oil/grease, much more concerned about actually using the oil/grease properly and often.

:D

Yep, something used regularly is 10 times better than any wonder stuff left unused for months.

mobil 1 sync. i use it to lube all my rifles and pistols.. Works great and cost a lot less and last longer than the so called gun oils

I was very surprised to see that wd-40 had similar rust prevention when tested on metal as compared to many others. That said, the marketing still has me spending on other stuff and my dad laughs. Mobil 1 huh, that is sure cost effective for lube. I even stock it in the garage!:)

Mobile 1 10w-30 in the action, especially in my AR-15s.
CLP on the rest of the gun for corrosion protection.

I use whatever the shop had on its shelves when I needed some. :p And I have to agree with the poster that said the best stuff is the stuff you use.

Though not to annoy people who like WD-40, I've had some problems with it turning into more of a tacky residue than actually lubricating after a while. Bear in mind most of my experience is with automotive stuff.

Since I'm new here, are these posts along the lines of political, religion, or motor oil on any other forum?:uhoh:

As most know, WD-40 is a water displacement formula (#40).

It is a decent penetrant, but a poor lube.

Use wd 40 as a cleaner. WD40 is not much of a lubricant but a great solvent. It is cheap enough to use it liberally to flush gunk off. Then after wiping off the wd 40 apply any motor oil.
