I had a thought that was spurred by a thread in the Autoloader forum. A bunch of members were talking about how many rounds they've put through the new S&W M&P, how many malfunctions they've had, and details of their malfunctions. Are there any applications that allow users to track their individual firearms round counts and details? If not would the shooting community be interested in using one?

I'm a software developer by trade (Windows applications) and would be willing to write an application if people were interested.

If there is interest, what kind of features or components would you guys like to see? I'm thinking that you would want to store multiple firearms, each with a calender or list of shooting outings. Outings could include which firearms used, and what types of ammo, how many rounds of each ammo, and details of any malfunctions. It'd probably also be useful to generate reports and statistics on firearms of total rounds fired, total malfunctions, malfunctions broken down by ammo type, etc.

I guess you could also throw in some ability to track smith work and trips back to the factory.

So would anyone be interested?
 
There is already a program...

The program is called RoundCount, written by Steve Boutilier. It does everything that you want. It lists firearm outings, cleaning sessions, number of rounds fired per range session, number of rounds fired total, and average rounds fired per outing. Very simple, very cool program. It's freeware and can be downloaded.
Another very neat program for firearm collections is called GunSafe 2.8. This program has you enter all the pertinent information on your collection. It lets you add pictures and purchase information. This program is also freeware

I've been doing this in Excel for years. But dedicated software might be better. Anybody have more detail on the 'RoundCount' program?
 
I'm trying to find the program again

i deleted the install program off my computer. I just have the program now. It is called RoundCount 0.99 Beta 2. I'm posting a screen shot i took of the program. I'll continue looking for the program

I also vote for Gunsafe as a pretty good example. It doesn't use mainstream components and there is no support but it seems pretty bulletproof, its free and it has lots of capability. Pretty hard to beat.
